Who is the rightful king of England? Eight actors perform over 40 roles in a condensed adaptation of Shakespeare's play cycle chronicling over a hundred years of war, murder, seduction, and betrayal as one family tries to answer the most hotly contested political question of the middle ages.

This England is a geopolitical epic that takes audiences on a dramatic rollercoaster to the heights of the medieval English monarchy's glory and the depths of its depravity. Grief-stricken John of Gaunt, heroic Henry the Fifth, murderous Queen Margaret, repulsive Richard the Third, and dozens more of Shakespeare's greatest characters cross swords, match wits, and meditate on the nature of power, ambition, and leadership in this unique adaptation. See Shakespeare's eight compelling and dramatic histories as he understood them: connected stories in a continuous narrative that shaped both his time and ours.

STRANGE HARBOR is a Brooklyn-based theater company thatdevelops and produces new plays adapted from classic texts. Our work combines found text with choreographed movement, period music, and both traditional and experimental techniques to create epic and intimate performances. We make the strange familiar and the familiar strange.

Past productions include DMITRI AND THE THREE THOUSAND KOPEKS, based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's The Brothers Karamazov, and OR, THE WHALE, based on Herman Melville's Moby-Dick. Currently in development at IRT: SHE TOOK AWAY HIS HEAD FROM HIM, based on the stories of Judith, a biblical heroine who beheaded the wicked general Holofernes, and Artemisia Gentileschi, a Renaissance artist who dared to paint herself as Judith and her rapist as Holofernes.

IRT Theater is a grassroots laboratory for independent theater and performance in New York City, providing space and support to a new generation of artists. Tucked away in the old Archive Building in Greenwich Village, IRT's mission is to build a community of emerging and established artists by creating a home for the development and presentation of new work. Some of the artists we have supported include Young Jean Lee, Reggie Watts and Mike Daisey.

This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, Office of Council Member Corey Johnson and The Nancy Quinn Fund, a project of ART-NY.
