Spoon Productions' Revival of Nicky Silver's THE FOOD CHAIN Continues thru 3/7 at The Treehouse Theater

By:

Spoon Productions, NYC is pleased to announce its first full-length production of The Food Chain by Nicky Silver. The play, which had an acclaimed run in 1995 Off-Broadway and at the Woolly Mammoth Theater in Washington, D.C., will be mounted at The Treehouse Theater (154 W. 29th St., 2nd Floor) for eight weekend performances: Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM, February 13th -March 7th. The performance will run approximately 90 minutes with no intermission.

The Food Chain is a dark five-person comedy with a sharp commentary on self-image, sexuality, and the need for validation. Amanda, a young self-proclaimed poet, calls a psychiatric help hotline after her new stoically evasive husband of three weeks has been mysteriously missing for two of them. Add in a sexy male runway model, an overweight man in a spiral of neurosis, a no-nonsense Jewish yenta, and the recipe for The Food Chain is complete.

The emotions start at full tilt, then go from there.

Even almost 20 years after its acclaimed first Off-Broadway run in 1995 and run at the Wooly Mammoth Theater, The Food Chain's sharp commentary on self-image, sexuality, and validation rings true with present-day audiences. Silver's philosophy of mixing his message with a heavy dose of absurd character-based humor makes for a heavy-hitting comedy that sheds light on the darker side of our insecurities and coping mechanisms.

But don't take our word for it!

The cast includes Britta Whittenberg, Kyra Bromberg, Peter Monica, Max Steele, and Jordan Stovall. Co-directed by Evan Johnson and Sarah McAvoy.

THE FOOD CHAIN runs at The Treehouse Theater, 154 W 29th Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10001 (Between 6th & 7th Avenue). Closest Trains: 28th Street (1 Train), 34th Street (A, C, E), 28th Street (N, R), 34th Street (B, F, M). Dates/Times: Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30pm; Feb 13 & 14, Feb 20 & 21, Feb 27 & 28, Mar 6 & 7.
