"'Speargrove Presents', an original musical based on a famous incident in Texas that made headlines nationwide, will have its world premiere on Monday, April 5th under the aegis of the New York Theatre Barn", announced Executive Director Reed Prescott. This special one-time performance celebrates the not-for-profit company's third anniversary and is part of a gala fundraising evening that includes pre and post show receptions. The debut performance will take place at 8PM on Monday, April 5th at the Julia Miles Theatre, 424 W. 55th St., www.nytheatrebarn.org.

According to Prescott, "NY Theatre Barn is dedicated to the investigation, development and advancement of new evocative works. We are all part of a greater community by supporting and nurturing the talents or artists through networking, education and collaboration."

"Speargrove Presents" is an original musical that the company has developed in earnest with a core of local writers and composers for several years. Based on a headline making incident out of Texas, the show evocatively and humorously examines what <unfortunately> transpires when a small town in Texas with conservative values tries to quash the local high school's production of "Rent." Ultimately, it's a story about community, family, and parenting.

NY Theatre Barn Artistic Director Joe Barros explains, "This show is exciting because it is inspired by a news making, much-talked-about incident as opposed to a book, film or comic book. There is a wealth of intriguing characters in the production that audiences will readily identify with from students to teachers to parents. It packs a wallop!

In keeping with the New York Theatre Barn's mission as working as a community to develop new works, "Speargrove Presents," features a book by Sammy Buck and a collaboration of both veteran and emerging composers and lyricists. The April 5th presentation is co-directed by Barros and Laura Brandel. For a full list of credits, visit www.nytheatrebarn.org.

Heading the cast is Bailey Hanks (MTV's Legally Blonde: The Search for the Next Elle Woods), Kristin Huffman (Company), Briana Carlson-Goodman (Hair), and Timothy J. Alex (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels)
