To commemorate the 210th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Pushkin, "Russia's Shakespeare" and most beloved writer, Green Lamp Press presents the world première in English verse of Pushkin's LITTLE TRAGEDIES - described by Dostoyevsky as "the greatest play ever in any language," translated and co-directed by award-winning author Julian Henry Lowenfeld -- with previews beginning November 3, prior to its official press opening November 5, at Baryshnikov Arts Center's Howard Gilman Performance Space in Manhattan.

Alexander Pushkin's LITTLE TRAGEDIES are four short, humorous yet lyrical plays about human nature's inherent contradictions. In "The Knight-Miser," the richest man in the world discovers that money can't buy him love or the respect of his son. "Mozart and Salieri" is the story of the greatest genius--and the greatest villain--in the history of music. "The Stone Guest" features the swashbuckling lover-poet Don Juan in a love triangle with his fiery mistress Laura (the actual prototype for Carmen) and Doña Anna, the true love of his life, (with far more action in a few minutes than in all of Chekhov's plays combined). And in "The Feast in Time of Plague," revelers honor a fallen friend with poems and songs.

The ensemble cast of LITTLE TRAGEDIES includes Peter Von Berg, Robert Carin, Karen Chapman, Stephen Innocenzi, Nika Leoni, Brandon Ruckdashel, Luiz Simas, and John Leonard Thompson.

LITTLE TRAGEDIES is co-directed by MR. Lowenfeld and Natalya Kolotova, director of the Maly Dramatic Theatre of St. Petersburg. This production represents the first time all four of Pushkin's LITTLE TRAGEDIES have been staged together in their entirety in English verse.

LITTLE TRAGEDIES features original songs set to Pushkin's lyrics, composed by Julian Henry Lowenfeld, with musical direction by Luiz Simas. It has art design by Lea Orth; costume design by Melissa Schlachtmeyer; lighting design by Derek Wright; and fight direction by Stephen Innocenzi. Professor Nadezhda S. Braginskaya is the production's distinguished literary consultant and Associate Producer is Adam Blanshay.

Performances of LITTLE TRAGEDIES run November 3-14 at the Baryshnikov Arts Center's Howard Gilman Performance Space. Tickets are $18. For reservations, call Smarttix at 212-868-4444 or visit www.smarttix.com.
