Spring's Awakening, the classic play by Frank Wedekend that inspired the popular musical, opens this weekend at the Producers Club Sonnet Theater. When asked about this tragic-comedy of the teenage experience of sexual awakening's Wedekind often referred to this show as the Child's Tragedy. As the central characters face the transition into adulthood they are faced with discovering what that means for them and how it will impact their self identity as too often this subject is not one that would be discussed with the adults of this society. As preconceived notions fade, and paradigms shift, the illusions are Shed and Melchior will have to come to terms with the consequences of his actions.

This production of Spring's Awakening takes on a new and impactful voice through the imaginative direction of director Cammerron Baits, whose previous shows have been acclaimed by the Huffington Post. The varying backgrounds and the sincere performances of all of the cast illuminates the highly relevant and universal themes of this play. Though the paths of this time of the characters' lives differ for each, they are forced to be awakened and face the world they grew up thinking they knew as they find their own identities in adulthood. Their tribulations and epiphanies culminate in a powerful final scene that features the iconic mysterious man in the mask, played by deaf actor Joan Joel, who signs in ASL the the entirety of the play's final scene.

Performances are November 2nd at 8pm, November 3rd at 8pm, and November 4th at 12pm and 8pm. An ASL interpreter will be available at the November 2ndperformance.
