Photo Flash: In Rehearsal with DTEG's SON OF A PREACHER MAN
Denman Turner Entertainment Group (DTEG, Inc.) and Rivers at Rehoboth are excited to present Son of a Preacher Man, written by Vascola Stoney with one performance, Friday, August 1st, on the Upper West Side. Scroll down for a sneak peek at the cast in rehearsal!
Adapted by Kellie Turner, she described the essence of the work. "The story deals with stigma itself, and it sheds light on the mindset of a tortured soul and how family, and society, can be cruel and leading to deadly consequences," she said.
Son of a Preacher Man explores what happens as a father's disappointment leads down the road of shame--- when his eldest son doesn't quite follow the path he has laid out for him. Barnes Jr. (Duane Burress, Jr.), a preacher's son from a generation of preachers, struggles with living up to his father's expectations after making choices which vary too greatly. He is ultimately forced to choose between the callings placed on his life, or to follow his own heart--- alienating his father and maybe even God. When asked about the creative process through every stage of development, Dominique Denman replied, "I like that every piece written for the stage gives way to creativity between producers, directors and actors, and that the audience is privy to the picture captured once these components splash the bare stage with a rainbow of colors."
