New Light Theater Project Hosts First LONDON CALLING Event This Weekend

By:

New Light Theater Project (NLTP) is pleased to announce the first annual London Calling event. Over the same weekend in April, London-based Equilibrium Theatre will produce five new American plays in London and NLTP will produce five new British plays in Midtown. The theme? English/American relations and what we actually think about each other. Is the relationship sustained? Does it need a little work?

London Calling originated from New Light's workshop abroad in London in November of 2013, and both companies are continuing the collaboration. The mission of New Light Theater Project is to collaborate, and to create an event out of live, theatrical evenings. London Calling strives to break down walls and stereotypes between England and America, bridging the gap between the two English-speaking countries, and contributing to the theatre canon with new plays ranging from farcical to provocative. The ultimate goal: to add a different city around the world each year,in order to create an international exchange festival.

The featured playwrights are: Frazer Flintham (Soho Theatre, York Theatre Royal, BBC, Pleasance Edinburgh); Sara Pascoe (established comedy writer and performer in the UK); Archie Maddocks (The Bush Theatre, The Orange Tree Theatre); Jane Wainwright (Royal Court, BBC writer's room); Caitlin Shannon (Orange Tree Theatre, "Einstein and Maleva" directed by Emma Canalese Off Broadway).

The directors and cast are: Amanda Berry, Saluda Camp, Kay Capasso, Deborah Carlson, John DeSilvestri, Reginald Douglas, Max Eddy, Melissa Firlit, Amy Gijsbers van Wijk, Cailin Heffernan, Cloteal Horne, Michael Kane, Courtney Knysch, Alex Lawrence, Oscar Limon, Jake Minvich, Andrew Morton, Sara Pascoe, Yuriy Pavlish, Jordan Spoon, CJ Walker, Bonnie White, and Abby Wylan. London Calling features the music of The Lisa Franks (Danielle Beckmann, Sasha Winters). Lighting design is by Liz Blessing.

New Light Theater Project 's main purpose is to collaborate - to act as a conduit for artists whose work speaks to the current culture - in order to build and sustain relationships within the theatre community.

The Equilibrium is a multi-faceted arts company producing work with the simple and understated rule of gender-balance. We seek to collaborate internationally across a range of artistic fields as well as producing work that engages and excites. For more information, visit:theequilibrium.org

There are 2 performances of LONDON CALLING: tonight, April 26th at 8PM and Sunday, April 27th at 7PM at the TGB Theatre (312 w 36th Street, 3rd floor). Tickets are on sale now for $10 at londoncalling.brownpapertickets.com. For more information, visit www.NewLightTheaterProject.com.
