Naked Angels, The Amoralists and More Set for (NOT JUST) 3 NEW PLAYS, 9/8-29

Three New Playwrights (Allison Bressi, Executive Producer) announced today a lineup of 45 new works by more than 60 artists, as part of (not just) 3 New Plays, a month-long pop-up event hosted by Tom Noonan's Paradise Factory (64 East 4th Street, Between Bowery & Second Avenue) September 8-29, 2013.

Naked Angels, The Amoralists, Fresh Ground Pepper and over 50 emerging artists will present new work during the month-long event. These works, curated by Distilled Theatre Company, will be performed in conjunction with previously announced world premiere plays by Kevin Armento, Jaclyn Backhaus and Jerry Lieblich. Additionally, several other artists, including Lisa D'Amour, will have free use of the space for rehearsal to develop work.

The additional performances will take place pre-show and post-show, seven days a week. And consistent with the event's mission, all artists will be using the space free of charge, and these performances will be Pay-What-You-Can.

Tom Noonan of the Paradise Factory Theater is thrilled to have (not just) 3 New Plays at his East Village space this fall. "For 30 years The Paradise Factory has embraced new and original work, offering a home for artists to learn, explore and perform," he explains. "We're hosting (not just) 3 New Plays in our tradition of creating space for artists to flourish and it's our hope that this model will catch on, that other artists might embrace it."

"Their display of community support is truly inspiring, and so we're thrilled to host our friends Seth Moore and The Lobbyists as they test out new material for their first collaboration, Seawife."

Pulitzer Prize finalist Lisa D'Amour also raves, "I thought I had gone back in time to late 70's New York City when playwright Kevin Armento emailed me asking if my company needed any free rehearsal space -- they had some to share, for free, and were trying to spread the wealth throughout their community. Free space? Without having to stress, beg, borrow and steal? It's like a dream. The money saved will go to actors, designers and other creators as we work towards the very first work in progress showing of our latest piece, Milton."

Established theater artists and companies as well as emerging ones jumped at the chance to be part of this artistic experiment. Armento, Backhaus and Lieblich, who are also co-producing the event, are excited to offer free rehearsal and performance space to artists who inspire them.

"We want to transform the way artists think about space, particularly a rented venue," say Lieblich. "Why should it be occupied by only one play, sitting dark for twenty-two hours a day? By offering free space to dozens of exciting New York artists - and not just theater artists, but filmmakers, comedians, musicians, dancers, etc. - we can create a vibrant community for a month, and at the same time increase awareness about our plays. Everybody wins. Honestly we don't know why everybody doesn't do this, and our hope is to forge a new model that will be replicated all over the community."

(not just) 3 New Plays will kick off on September 8th with back-to-back-to-back performances of Armento's killers, Backhaus' Shoot the Freak, and Lieblich's Eudaemonia.

Directed by Stefanie Abel Horowitz (The Capables, the Gym at Judson), killers will feature a cast including Rania Salem Manganaro (Hit the Wall, Barrow Street Theatre), John Gasper, Emma Ramos (One Night in the Valley, INTAR),Chris Thorn (Of Mice and Men, The Acting Company), and Katy Wright-Mead (Boardwalk Empire). Shoot the Freak, directed by Andrew Neisler (Clown Bar, Pipeline Theatre Company) will feature Ryann Weir (The Collected Rules of Gifted Camp, The Brick), Jamie Effros (Back of Throat, The Flea Theater), Claire Rothrock (Eggs, Pipeline Theatre Company), Ben Otto (Debutante, Ars Nova ANT Fest), Maxwell Eddy, and Sarah Todes. Eudaemonia will be directed by Marshall Paillet (Triassiq Park, Soho Playhouse and Los Angeles) and will boast a cast includingBrennan Caldwell (Zelda, NYMF), A.J. Shively (Broadway: La Cage Aux Folles; February House, The Public Theater), Emma Meltzer (What Every Girl Should Know, NY Fringe) and Brandon Espinoza (Broadway: Les Miserables, Big, Gypsy).
