MidWinter Madness Fest Adds Fourth Performance To ONE DROP 2/11-19
Playwright Andrea J. Fulton's powerful One Drop will receive four performances, February 11-19, as part of the Midwinter Madness Festival of one-act plays at the Roy Arias Studios, 300 West 43rd Street. Streamlined to a one-hour production and directed by Allen C. Harris, One Drop is drawn from a true story of the playwright's family in 1800's Louisiana, in which the central character, a mulatto, is faced with the decision of whether or not to "pass."
An exceptional multi-cultural cast enacts the story and the world of Charley, child of a love affair between a black carpenter and the white daughter of a high-born property owner. Though touching on serious issues of power, love, values, loyalty, faith, even American history, playwright Fulton has cleverly constructed One Drop so that it packs a punch with subtlety and charm. The show also boasts original songs with music and lyrics by Ms. Fulton. They will be performed live by Illona S. Dixon, Company Musical Director, with singer LaTessa and ensemble of musicians on banjo, harmonica, guitar, saxophone, bass, and percussion. The Company consists of Jared Reinmuth, Steven B. Walters, Ken Bolander, Zeshan Bhatti, Cheryl "Che" McClendon, Denise Fair Grant and Andrew Garrett Hicks, all participants in the premiere of One Drop last year at Theater for the New City. They will be joined by new cast members Kymbali Craig, Xandra Leigh Stegmaier, and Dumeha Vernice Thompson.February 11-19
