Actor/Playwright Megan Phillips brings her story of broken dreams turned triumph to the Manhattan Repertory Theatre Summer Festival this year in the astonishing one-woman musical drama Breaking Velocity.

In 2006 Phillips was about to complete her Masters Degree in Musical Theatre at the UK's prestigious Mountview Academy for the Performing Arts, but her dream of performing on Broadway was interrupted when she was struck by a car. She spent the next five years recovering from several surgeries on her shattered ankle. Breaking Velocity follows Phillips' emotional journey as she rediscovers her dreams, her self-worth, and her creative authenticity.

"I'm beyond excited to bring this show to NYC," says Phillips. "I wrote this show while coming to terms with the fact that I may never get to perform on a New York stage and now, it is this show that is making this dream come true. If something in your life that seemed so sure is suddenly taken away from you, you'll benefit from the message of Breaking Velocity. There is this deep human need to defy the odds, and sometimes we need to hear other people's stories to remind ourselves how incredible we really are."

Creator & star Megan Phillips was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada. She has an MA in Musical Theatre Performance from Mountview Academy for Performing Arts in London, UK. Since returning home, selected credits include Evelyn in Homecoming King (world premiere, 30 Below Theatre), Fay in Here on the Flight Path (Metro Theatre), and Helena in The Mystery of Edwin Drood (APPLAUSE!). She has co-written, co-produced, and co-starred in the comedic web series 1-800- Dirty-Talk, and recently performed in and did casting for Target Canada's Christmas with Carly Rae Jepsen.

Breaking Velocity is directed by NYC- based Ernest Johns, who was the Associate Artistic Director at the Jean Cocteau Repertory, between 2000 & 2006. Ernie holds an MFA from Brooklyn College, where he was awarded the first Joel Zwick Award for Directing, and a BFA in Acting from Virginia Commonwealth University.

With her quirky sense of humor, touching performance and a killer voice, Phillips brings a story of healing and finding happiness that cannot be missed at this summer's festival.

Nutmeg Creations presents Breaking Velocity, created by Megan Phillips with original music by Megan Phillips, Jessi Nicholson & Glen Hamilton, starring Megan Phillips, directed by Ernest Johns and stage managed by Louie Pearlman.
