Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble Continues FIFTY MILLION FRENCHMEN Through November 18

By:

Medicine Show Theatre Ensemble, one of New York's longest-running experimental theatres, presents Fifty Million Frenchmen, with music and lyrics by the great Cole Porter and book by Herbert Fields. Performances continue Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 4 p.m. But hurry, the show closes on November 18, 2012. There are no performances on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays. The theatre is located at 549 W. 52nd Street, 3rd Floor, near 11th Ave., New York, NY, subway C/E 50th St.

In addition to directing, Obie-winner Barbara Vann joins Cari Bell in the cast, along with Jarrod Bates, Robert Bellsey, Mark J. Dempsey, Beth Griffith, Richard Gross, Michael Levi Harris, Maria Hoffmann, EVan Kaplan, Richard Keyser, Gulshan Mia, Marvin Riggins, and Becca Shimkin. Bob Goldstone is musical director. He was the pianist for Evita and asst. musical director of Charlie and Algernon on Broadway, and pianist for the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

Fifty Million Frenchmen is a chance to forget our troubles during this trying time in New York. The show was designed to be enormous fun, originally opening at Broadway's Lyric Theatre, just one month after the stock market crash of 1929. At the time, fellow great song writer Irving Berlin called it, "The best musical comedy I've seen in years." The title is a reference to a hit song, not by Cole Porter, called Fifty Million Frenchmen Can't Be Wrong. The plot revolves around the tale of an ex-pat American millionaire in Paris who, on a bet, must woo a young woman he adores while pretending to be penniless.

Tickets are $18.00 for general admission, $14.00 for seniors and students. Tickets are available from Smarttix at www.Smarttix.com or (212) 868-4444. Group rates are available by calling the theater directly at (212) 262-4216. For more information, log onto the company's website at www.MedicineShowTheatre.org.
