LillIan Smith: Being Heard, written and performed by Lulu Fogarty, will make an appearance at The United Solo Festival @ Theater Row on Sunday, October 30 at 3:00 p.m. (Running time: 75 minutes.)

LillIan Smith (1897-1966) was a white southern liberal writer, unafraid to criticize segregation at a time when such actions almost guaranteed social ostracism. Lulu Fogarty tells of this brave woman's life-long struggle to be heard, daring to say "Although we have come a long way - there is still a long way to go."

She first performed this piece at Dixon Place, to standing room only crowd, in April 2010. And she just took it to Syracuse where she performed it for the Drama Dept, 200 young theater majors, where it all began.

The festival is using the 55 seat Studio Theatre at Theatre Row, 410, West 42nd Street, NYC. General seating.
