Lisann Valentin joins the ensemble cast of The Church of Why Not, in the featured role of Claudia, a determined mother looking for a tutor for her son, who finds a way to help others in the process.

Valentin taps into her personal experience for the role of Claudia, "a strong Latina, full of faith and practical advice, much like myself," says the actress with pride. "Claudia advocates fiercely for her son, and enhances the lives of those around her in the process," says Valentin. The actress boasts that Claudia reminds her of her mother, and of "the women [she] grew up with - unwavering."

Featuring a large ensemble cast, The Church of Why Not tells the stories of everyday believers and skeptics, celebrating both our spiritual diversity and our common humanity. Valentin embraces the role of the strong Latina mom and finds it "refreshing to see characters who aren't defeated by their circumstances, rather, they strive to change them. This play shows just how extraordinary a normal person can be."

"To watch how each person affects another as the stories unfold and intertwine - something we sometimes miss in our every day experience - is quite inspirational," says Valentin.

The Church of Why Not will run through March 15, 2015 at the West End Theater, 263 W. 86th St., Second floor, New York, NY 10024. For more about the play visit http://www.theatre167.org/the-church-of-why-not.html.
