Limited Run Of HAMLET 90, Adapted and Directed By Sheila Bandyopadhyay Comes to The Brick Theater

A limited run of HAMLET 90, adapted from the original play by William Shakespeare and directed by Sheila Bandyopadhyay will play at The Brick Theater at 579 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn as part of The Brick's Shakespeare in the Theater festival. Performances will be Tuesday August 13, Wednesday August 14 and Friday August 16, 2019 at 7pm. Tickets ($20 General Admission) are available for advanced purchase at www.bricktheater.com. The performance will run 90 minutes with no intermission.

Hamlet 90 is a streamlined, physical, music infused adaptation of the play. The cast of Hamlet 90 features Los Angeles-based actress Shadia Martin in the title role performing alongside a diverse, multi-national ensemble of 7 performers. The cast includes Jeffery Alkins, Mirko Faienza, Skylar Fray, Alexia Hartman, Jake Rose, Anna Snapp, and Pakistani recording artist Sara Haider as Gertrude.

"The plays the thing wherein I'll catch the conscience of the king."

As an adaptation of the classical text, Hamlet 90 is focused on the psycho-physical disturbances caused by the political landscape of the play. Hamlet, essentially a sensitive philosopher, is at odds with the actions he must take and more at home directing the players. Ophelia is portrayed as an empathic conduit for the breaking down of the larger world, while Horatio must stand alone and outside the action as much as he may wish to aid his friend. The complement of strong physicality and live music creates the aesthetic of "Rock'n'Roll Shakespeare", vibrantly alive and contemporary, while retaining the poetic dimensions of the play.

HAMLET 90 features fight choreography by Michael Toomey; music by Ryan Attie; marketing direction by Ariel Estrada; and production assistance by Carmen Legg and Aline Salloum. Co-produced by Leviathan Lab.
