On the heels of Lady Gaga's triumphant Super Bowl performance and announcement of her Joanne world tour, the Mother Monster keeps influencing new art! Awake At 3 Productions is developing its Romeo & Juliet, inspired by Gaga's music videos, for an Off-Broadway run and companion docu-fiction series.

Starring Kalista Tazlin as NYC's first Indonesian Juliet, this new version of Shakespeare's classic previewed to great success at the Flamboyan Theatre in late January. The cast includes alumni of such series as Law & Order: SVU, Royal Pains, and The Blacklist (plus The Elder Scrolls' Raphael Corkhill, for video game fans), and the production focuses on strong women. Ladies Capulet and Montague rule their households, a gender-flipped Mercutio rebels against the status quo, and Juliet lays her ambition and sexuality bare in her onstage home - a luxurious bathtub where the balcony scene is reinterpreted for all kinds of danger.

Now's the perfect time to scoop this developing story while it's hot. Kalista Tazlin has a new film coming soon, and can speak to the struggles that young female artists are facing in this uncertain climate, particularly as an international actress and producer. Her bio, along with production photos from Romeo & Juliet, are below to give more details about this incredible talent.

ABOUT OUR LEADING LADY:

Known internationally for her Comcast Xfinity commercial, Kalista Tazlin has taken the US by storm as a true artist. She produced, wrote, and starred in the film Untouched, which placed in a top slot at the Asian American International Film Festival and was chosen to broadcast on the Asian American Film Lab's TV program Film Lab Presents. Kalista's directorial debut, the film In the Cards (which she also produced and starred in), premiered in December at the inaugural Third Eye Film Festival, a forum dedicated to female-driven works of horror and fantasy. In the Cards was screened to great acclaim alongside the work of Cannes veteran Eugenie Muggleton and the multi-award-winning Michelle Sutherland. It will be exhibited at Third Eye's second series in May 2017.

Kalista strives to be a role model for young women. Her lead role in the NYC Fringe Festival's Hearts Afire and her appearance in the award-winning Chinese revenge story Dongmei among others, show that she is a force to be reckoned with. She can be seen on TV in Investigation Discovery Channel's A Crime to Remember as real-life murder spree survivor Lark Ohta. Her latest film, Snap, will be released soon.
