HORSE TRADE THEATER GROUP is a self-sustaining theater development group; with a focus on new work, it has produced a massive quantity of stimulating downtown theater. Horse Trade's Resident Artist Program offers a home to a select group of Independent Theater artists, pooling together a great deal of talent and energy. It is also the home of FRIGID New York - the first and only festival of its kind in New York City.

Penny's Open Mic

Spoken word artists, musicians, comedians, and other creative folks are invited to put their two cents in at this weekly gathering hosted by Penny Pollak.

One Man Circus
Every Thursday @ 10:30pm $15
The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street)
When Rudi Macaggi is on stage it's not just a show it's an event, an hour and 20 minutes of Music, Danger, and Acrobatic Genius, boasting four appearances on The Jay Leno Show in the last year, and described as "The most exciting, dangerous thing... ever on "Americas Got Talent" by Judge Piers Morgan. Catch Rudi live! ...and risking his life, every Thursday night at 10:30pm.

Monsters in the Wood: Chapter-by-Chapter

Author and performer Brad Lawrence will perform all eighteen chapters, one a month, of his work Monsters In The Wood, finally answering the question - What's so funny about murder, poverty, and drug addiction? Every month will also feature members of the BTK Band and special guest performers.

God Tastes Like Chicken

The brainchild of erotic balloon artist John Murdock, the cast of God Tastes Like Chicken serves up society's sacred cows medium rare, with improv, sketch comedy, stand-up, chickens, and heresy.

Six playwrights and directors get a week and a half to write and rehearse a short play based around three conditions, a theme, and a pre-selected cast, and then its go time. Different playwrights and directors featured every month.

Sketch Block

Sketch Comedy meets Block Party. This monthly show features a guest host comedian, three guest sketch troupes and drinking. Come meet, mingle, and perform!

Beaches 2

Beaches 2 is a sketch comedy group featuring Tanya O'Debra that aims to take a type of joke and see if they can make you laugh about it for one half of one hour.

Thank You, Robot's Summer Fridays
Friday, February 11 @ 10:30pm $5

Summer Friday's is a showcase for independent and established improv teams. For each show, two teams join Thank You, Robot to perform sets of unscripted comedy, never seen before and never to be seen again.

Places: An Episodic Soap Opera for the Stage

Places is a dark comedy revolving around a struggling independent theatre company and a lead actress who has developed a bad habit for accidentally killing people. To save the company from financial ruin, the director hires a 92-year-old Broadway legend (played by a life size puppet) in an attempt to bring in audiences, much to the chagrin of the anti-establishment, robot-obsessed playwright. New episodes every month!

The Adam Wade Show
Monday, February 14 @ 7pm $5

Moth storytelling favorite, Adam Wade, has put together many of his winning heartfelt and humorous stories for a special show. He'll also sing a few songs, and play video shorts. No two shows will be the same. A different featured guest will start the evening off.

BTK Band
Monday, February 14 @ 9pm $5

Raconteurs regale the audience with true stories from their lives while The BTK Band, NYC's hardest-drinking improvised storytelling rock band, improvises music and lyrics to turn their stories into songs. As if Tom Waits and The Moth delivered a baby from the gaping maw of Chaos.

Pitch!
Tuesday, February 15 @ 7pm $5

A live storytelling show with a twist. Four established storytellers will perform for the audience, but will simultaneously be "pitching" their ideas to the editor of a magazine or a producer from a popular TV show or network. The editor will give their input after each story, and even a possible yes or no. Hosts Greg Walloch & Mark Allenwill act as emcees, keeping things moving at an irreverent, funny pace, poking fun at the publishing and entertainment industry itself, and the very idea of "pitching" and "being published."

Revealed Burlesque
Wednesday, February 16 @ 10pm $25

Revealed is a cutting-edge burlesque show with a sinfully dirty twist. This unique and extra-sultry night features the sexiest, most notorious burlesque performers in New York City, as you've never seen them before! Come experience an evening of salacious striptease and skin, where the climax of each number leaves everything...revealed.

Soul Glo

Soul Glo is a variety show starring the all African-American cast of Nobody's Token performing a completely improvised sitcom. The show also features multi-cultural stand-up and sketch comedy by some of the most talented underground comics in New York.

Achordial Brio
Monday, February 21 @ 9pm $10

Achordial Brio is a chamber septet, which aims to destroy the standards and assumptions of what classical music is currently perceived as. This is not your grandmother's chamber group! The tuxes have been banished to the back of the closet. Come see a bassoon playing on top of the piano, and English horn standing at the edge of the stage playing directly into the audience, horn flares on violin and cello...and more!

TOLD
An evening of themed storytelling

TOLD is a monthly storytelling show hosted by Seth Lind. Each month New York's best performers take the stage to tell true stories related to a central theme. A special guest provides interludes to glue the evening together into a collective experience.

The Drafts

The Drafts are a non-equity ensemble of actors who are relatively new to the New York theater scene. The mission of The Drafts is to develop new plays. Like their namesake, The Drafts are a group of versatile actors from largely varied backgrounds and experiences. They are the most talented New York actors you've never heard of!
