HARLEM STAGE ON SCREEN PRESENTS: FREEDOM RIDERS by Stanley Nelson

A journey that is marred by imprisonment and savage beatings results in a path of unstoppable freedom. This documentary follows black and white travelers as they embark on a trip to the South encountering violence and racism as they test the validity of Jim Crow laws in 1961 in America. Screening followed by a Q&A session with filmmaker and reception. Presented in partnership with the Black Documentary Collective as part of the Harlem Stage Partners Program.

UPTOWN NIGHTS AT HARLEM STAGE PRESENTS: DON'T HIT MAMA'S DANCE PARTY, Choreography by Nita Liem

Local and international artists come together for an explosive mash-up of sound and dance inviting the audience to be a part of a night uptown. The unique collaboration features New York City talent and the Dutch company "Don't Hit Mama" as they come together to close the 10th NYC Hip Hop Theater Festival. Presented in partnership with the Hip Hop Theater Festival.

HARLEM STAGE FAMILY SERIES PRESENTS: SAMEER GUPTA'S NAMASKAR

Namaskar (CD release March 1, 2011) marks a fresh and innovative approach toward jazz, Indian and soul music. Co-produced with longtime associate pianist Marc Cary, this partnership offers a new direction in musical possibilities with the most organic, creative musical experience ever. Namaskar features classical musicians of the highest caliber, including renowned Pt. Anindo Chatterjee (tabla) and Pt. Ramesh Mishra (sarangi). The entire ensemble pushes the boundaries of today's music navigating through beautiful compositions---invoking lyrical depth, improvisational acumen, and intensely alluring sounds.

A collaborative presentation with Harlem Stage and the Neighborhood Concert Series of the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie Hall.

Bilal, a high school senior, must choose between two worlds: Working at his family's taxi stand or his dream of attending college. The film based on a true story follows tough choices a young man must make to establish his own identity. Screening followed by a Q&A session with filmmaker and reception.
