The OBIE award-winning HERE Arts Center will present Removable Parts, created and performed by composer/lyricist Corey Dargel, with piano performance by Kathleen Supové. Directed by Emma Griffin (Five Course Love), this production will play in HERE's 2007-2008 mainstage season that features seven new multi-disciplinary productions spanning theatre, dance, puppetry and multimedia work. Removable Parts will run Thursday, September 6 – Saturday, September 15 at HERE Arts Center (145 Sixth Avenue).
"This theatrical series of love songs about voluntary amputation asks the question: in the name of love, how far might you go? Through playful language, cutting-edge music, and virtuosic live performance mixed with electronic elements, Corey Dargel ('Less Famous Than You') and experimental pianist Kathleen Supové ('The Exploding Piano) explore the damaged parts in each of us, whether physical, spiritual or psychological. The songs and banter in this daring and insightful work, inspired by psychiatric case studies and online research, take a sideways look at amputees, devotees and wannabes, with a balance of empathy, understanding and irreverence," state press notes.
"Removable Parts was developed through the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP), which provides development, commissions and full production support. Since 1993, the OBIE-winning HERE Arts Center has been a premier arts organization in NYC and a leader in the field of new, hybrid performance work."Videos
