HATITUDES Returns To Tribeca PAC

By:

BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, the longest operating performance venue in lower Manhattan, in partnership with the New Federal Theatre, proudly presents the second annual Hatitudes: A Tribute to the Grace and Style of Our Mothers on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 3pm.

New Federal Theatre's Audience Development Committee noticed that many friends of the theatre were caregivers of their mothers, or had lost their mothers due to long illness or quick suddenly with no preparation. These conversations were profound and moving and lead to this event: a tribute to mothers. Additionally, putting on one's 'Sunday Best' is a tradition in African-American culture most often learned from mothers. The tradition of going to church on Sunday dressed in one's best and most beautiful outfit; capped off with gloves and a hat, is a memory to celebrate!

This event will specifically honor Shaunielle Perry and Dr. Glory Van Scott, with a Special Appreciation to Jackie Jeffries.

Elizabeth Van Dyke, the curator and director of this presentation says, "Hatitudes is a heartfelt and meaningful event. In our community, our mothers and mother figures are revered, respected, and phenomenal women who have paved the way for many sons and daughters enabling us to live and realize our dreams today. Hatitudes honors those who are no longer with us. The honorees, Shaunielle Perry and Dr. Glory Van Scott, are pillars of African-American Culture, who have been and remain our 'cultural mothers', who pave the way in Theater and Dance, and on whose shoulders we stand. Jackie Jeffries, an Independent Producer and pillar of our community, is known for her support of our major institutions, our artistic leaders and our entire theatrical community."

The program will feature a hat parade featuring the artistry of NY Milliners, writing by France-Luce Benson, Leah Maddrie, Fern Metcalf, Sandra Daley Sharif, Joyce Sylvester, Judy Tate, Regina Taylor, and Cori Thomas, Awards Presentations, and a raffle of fabulous items! Don't forget to wear your best hat!
