GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! Hits NYC With The First Ever All-Female Team

Fresh after graduating from Boston University's School of Theatre, two young women founded Amateur Hour - a collective with the mission to create opportunities for women in comedy. After a successful run in Boston, Amateur Hour is bringing the first ever all-female production of Gutenberg! The Musical! to New York City

Amateur Hour was founded by Michelle Ciccotelli and Stephanie Occhipinti in May of 2017. It all started their senior year of college when, each in their own way, the two ladies felt a pull towards comedy. When the desire to produce and be a part of comedic works was not met with the opportunities they'd hoped for, they decided to take matters into their own hands.

Which brought them to...Gutenberg! The Musical!

Gutenberg! The Musical! is a hilarious musical spoof in which two aspiring playwrights present their new mega-musical about the inventor of the printing press. But with no props and no cast, they have to play all the parts and sing all the songs themselves. The show, written by Anthony King and Scott Brown, was born out of UCBT right here in New York City and is known for its brilliant script and challenging nature. Being that the humor is reliant on the versatility of the actors, and not their genders, Michelle and Stephanie felt capable and determined to bring this show to life as the first ever female duo to do so.

After their Boston run at Club Café in August of 2017, Amateur Hour packed up and moved to New York City, ready to bring the show to life once more. This production of Gutenberg! The Musical! features an all-female cast, directed by Lydia Utter. Musical Accompaniment by Layla Wang.

Catch Gutenberg! The Musical! for a limited engagement on the Striker Mainstage at the Peoples Improv Theater! Performances run June 7-29 at 9:30pm. Follow this link to get your tickets today!
