By:

Legendary Tony Award-winner George Faison is directing and co-producing the production of Accept "Except" LGBT NY. Performances began on June 21st at the Faison Firehouse Theater " located in Harlem at 6 Hancock Place at West 124th Street between St. Nicholas and Morningside Ave at 7:30pm. The extended run is scheduled for Thursdays - Sundays until July 22nd, 2012.

Accept "Except" LGBT NY iswritten by Karimah, a MFA graduate of Columbia University, School of the Arts. The cast is led by young spoken word artist/poet and actress Cynthia Keteku, known as Ceez Liive and Tyree L. Young.

This is the second installment in the author's series of five Accept "Except" plays. Accept "Except" LGBT NY is completely different from the previous version – different cast, different experiences, different locations and different issues.

Accept "Except" LGBT NY based on the 13th amendment is about the struggle for justice in America from slavery to modern day Gay Rights. It tells the story of two young people meet in a tree in a NYC Park, each seeking refuge from pursuing mobs. One is a former slave from 1741, the other a young woman in 2012.

Director George Faison and co-founder of Faison Firehouse Theater adds "How much has the world changed in 250 years, how far we still have to go to achieve equality? The play is based on the 13th Amendment of the United States Constitution and my mission and my theater's purpose is to pursue the truth, confront the issues and present positive alternatives and possibilities for living. To ACCEPT without EXCEPTION the RIGHTS and FREEDOMS of all people in their pursuit of LIBERTY, FREEDOM, JUSTICE and RESPECT."
