DECENNIAL: A BRICK ODYSSEY Celebrates The Brick's 10 Years Tonight

By:

The Brick Theater, Inc. presents Decennial: A Brick Odyssey, a fundraiser celebrating The Brick's 10 years, tonight, March 25, 7pm at The Brooklyn Brewery, 79 N 11th St Brooklyn, NY.

The evening will feature a stealth presentation of The One-Minute Play Festival, with new plays written by Mike Daisey, Neil LaBute, Kristoffer Diaz, Greg Kotis, Rachel Alxer, Bathsheba Doran, Qui Nguyen, Mac Rogers, Eliza Bent, John DeVore, Adam Szymkowicz, Kristen Greenidge and Robert Askins. Plus, a new episode of The Brick's long-running hit serial Penny Dreadful, as well as VJ Fuzzy Bastard & The Waystation (a temporal transmedia experience).

The Brick began as a renovated garage in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in 2002 and quickly became the lynchpin of a theatrical community. 10 years in, The Brick has hosted untold numbers of artists and over 600 productions. Some of Indie Theater's greatest current artists have been presented at The Brick, including Annie Baker, Jason Grote, Young Jean Lee, The Debate Society, Banana Bag & Bodice and Thomas Bradshaw. Award-winning transfers such as Suspicious Package, Bouffon Glass Menajorie and Samuel & Alasdair: A History of the Robot Wars began at The Brick. And the world-renowned NY Clown Theatre Festival returns every September to reinvent the world of international clown arts.

To celebrate those achievements and to reveal The Brick's new 10-year mission, attend Decennial: A Brick Odyssey, a journey into hidden performance and time travel, and a fundraiser event for the next 10 years. For the event, The One-Minute Play Festival has collected new plays from 13 of the most talented New York theater playwrights exclusively for The Brick. The plays will be performed by secret performers attending the party as if they were patrons, and speaking in dialogue written by these 13 playwrights in a repeating repertory. In the tradition of Sleep No More and other immersive theater, you will need to look and listen carefully to discover the plays.

Also making a special appearance at the benefit will be a new episode from the long-running Brick serial Penny Dreadful.

The Waystation (a temporal transmedia event) will be a game/installation discoverable only by patrons who have pre-purchased tickets and received an email with smartphone instructions.

Plus the VJ stylings of VJ Fuzzy Bastard!

Come dressed from any period of time in history or the future. Drinks and Treats included in the price! No fee to purchase online! All tickets: $40. The even takes place at The Brooklyn Brewery. All tickets available at www.bricktheater.com. If you cannot attend, please consider becoming a donor to help support The Brick's next 10 years: www.bricktheater.com/donor.

The Brick is located at 579 Metropolitan Avenue (between Union Avenue and Lorimer Street) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on the L & G subway lines (L: Lorimer stop; G: Metropolitan stop). For more detailed directions & further information, visit www.bricktheater.com. The Brick and its non-profit company, The Brick Theater, Inc. were founded in September of 2002 by Robert Honeywell and Michael Gardner. Formerly an auto-body shop, a storage space and a yoga center, this brick- walled garage was completely refurbished into a state-of-the-art theater complex, with a large sprung floor and professional lighting and sound package.

Winner of THE 2009 CAFFE CINO FELLOWSHIP AWARD, The Brick is Williamsburg, Brooklyn's destination for subversive theatrical experiences. Home to the critically acclaimed premieres of Bouffon Glass Menajoree (NY IT Award Winner-Outstanding Play), Samuel & Alasdair: A Personal History of the Robot War (NY IT Award Winner-Outstanding Play), Craven Monkey and the Mountain of Fury (NY IT Award Nominee-Outstanding Performance Art Production), Greed: A Musical Love $tory (NY IT Award Nominee-Outstanding Musical), Red Cloud Rising, Theatre of the Arcade and Suspicious Package (NY IT Award Nominee-Outstanding Play), The Brick has hosted some of downtown theater's most innovative artists, including Jason Grote, Annie Baker, Young Jean Lee, The Debate Society, Banana Bag & Bodice and Thomas Bradshaw.
