About The Show

As the world bids farewell to the King of Pop, investment broker JP (Matt Huffman) arrives at the kitschy Aloha Motel for his own date with destiny. He is joined by his mistress, Amelia (Blythe Coons), a devoted paramedic, whose fifteen-year relationship with JP has known its share of hurt and comfort. But as JP prepares to turn his Ponzi-scheming father-in-law over to the FBI, he'll discover that Amelia is not so easily sold on his plans for a new life together.

Exploring issues of emotional greed and unconditional loyalty, Magnitude of the Slope illustrates the moments of truth we confront when standing at The Edge of personal accountability.

The mission of Collective Hole Productions (CHP), founded in 2006, is to blur the traditional lines between the writing, rehearsal and performance phases of each project. The CHP approach brings the director's eye and storytelling skills to the writing process and involves the playwright in challenges of bringing the words to life.

To date, Collective Hole has developed and produced three original works: Run the Maze, Burn the Maze (2006), Tucker in a Box (2007) and Appetite for Destruction (2008). Collective Hole's newest play, Magnitude of the Slope, is its third to be presented in collaboration with The Tank.

Rebecca V. Nellis directed and co-produced Collective Hole's first three plays (Appetite for Destruction, Tucker in a Box and Run the Maze, Burn the Maze). Also in New York, Rebecca has worked as a director and stage/rehearsal manager with Falling Plaster, Common Ground Stage and Film Company, The Flock Theatre Company, Nevermore, Inc. and The Theatre for the New City. Rebecca worked in the casting departments of the Paper Mill Playhouse and the television show Lateline. Additionally, she was a teaching artist at the City Lights Youth Theatre. Before moving to New York, Rebecca studied theatre at the Chicago Academy for the Arts and the Steppenwolf Theatre Company. She is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts' Experimental Theatre Wing. Outside of the theatre, Rebecca is the Director of Programs for the CEW Foundation's Cancer and Careers initiative.

Paul Sapp has worked as a playwright, actor, stage manager and director for the Poison Cup Players, Axis Theater, the Children's Theater Association and the Tennessee Project. Among his favorite credits are Hamlet, Home To Center, Birthing Stations, I Never Saw Another Butterfly and The Continuing Adventures of Ashira 69: Alley Class' Gorgeous Guide to Etiquette and Subterfuge. Paul is a graduate of Loyola University in Baltimore, where he was the co-founder of the Poison Cup Players theater company and wrote and directed the original play That We Should Meet Again. Away from the stage, Paul is a copywriter and brand strategist for a New York marketing agency.

Julia A. Middleton stage managed Collective Hole's first three plays (Appetite for Destruction, Tucker in a Box and Run the Maze, Burn the Maze). In addition, she was the lighting designer for Appetite for Destruction and has provided general support to the company since its inception in 2006. When Julia isn't bringing her talents to Collective Hole, she is the Youth Program Manager for Slow Food USA; helping kids across the country learn where their food comes from.

Blythe Coons recently moved to New York after completing her MFA in Acting at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts. Recent credits include Mistress Ford in Merry Wives of Windsor, Dolores in Blind Date, Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker, Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet, and Mrs. Frank in The Diary of Anne Frank, directed by Amy Saltz.

Matt Huffman was last seen on stage in the title role of Missa Solemnis or The Play About Henry, a role he created for The Downtown Urban Theater Festival, receiving critical praise for his performance during its extended run at The Barrow Group. Selected stage credits include Hamlet in Hamlet, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet (Studio@620); Hally in Master Harold... and the boys; Bo in Bus Stop; Skinhead and The Doctor in Thomas Bradshaw's Cleansed (The Brick) and Southern Promises (PS 122). Matt frequently performs and participates in readings for companies and venues throughout NYC, including: The Flea, PS122, The National Arts Club, Players Club, The Kitchen, Horizon Theatre Rep, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Lark Play Development Center, Dixon Place, The Public, Stephen Sondheim's Young Playwrights Inc. and Urban Stages.
