CAITY & CYNDI'S BOOBS Set for UNDER St. Marks Tonight

By:

Caitlin Brodnick and Cyndi Freeman love their boobs. They have also both tested positive for the breast cancer gene (the BRCA genetic mutation). What do you do when science tells you you're at high risk for the C-word?

A) Drink heavily

B) Start stripping naked in public

C) Read scary stuff on the internet - obsessively

D) Reevaluate your feelings about Angelina Jolie

E) Make a plan

F) All of the above

As science becomes better at telling us what our medical future holds and as preventative measures ranging from surveillance to surgery to choosing embryos based on genetics become options -- not just for BRCA but for a growing range of disorders -- the only clear choice is to be kind to yourself while getting informed.

This conversational show features stories by seasoned storytellers / comedians Catilan Brodnick and Cyndi Freeman and a Q&A moderated by expert storyteller Erin Barker, best known for her work with Story Collider which presents true, personal stories about science.

Caity & Cyndi's Boobs will play a one-night only performance at UNDER St. Marks (94 St. Marks Place between 1st Avenue and Avenue A) tonight, June 13 at 8pm. Tickets ($15; $12 students) are available online at www.horseTRADE.info.

Caitlin Brodnick performs standup and storytelling regularly in New York City and Los Angeles. She is also a writer for Glamour.com. Her stories have been featured on the Moth podcast, and quoted by the AV Club and The Huffington Post. She is a breast cancer awareness advocate, and she has been invited to speak at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium and at various locations in New York City. With Condé Nast Entertainment and Glamour.com, Caitlin created and starred in the docu-seriesScrew You Cancer.

Cyndi Freeman is a two-time NY Fringe Festival award-winning solo performer. Storytelling credits include: The Moth, The Liar Show, Adam Wade's Super Stories, Seth Lind's Told, Risk, Story Collider, Stripped Stories, and And I Am Not Lying. Her solo shows have been presented in Boston, Amsterdam, Ireland, the UK, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Festival, and NYC. Her newest solo show, I Was a Sixth Grade Bigfoot, will be presented at the Edmonton Fringe Festival in Canada this upcoming August. Other credits include The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, Campus Comedy on HBO, and Compromising Situations on Showtime. Freeman also performs burlesque throughout New York as Cherry Pitz.

Erin Barker is senior producer of The Story Collider, a nonprofit organization that collects true, personal stories about science. As a storyteller, she is the first woman to win The Moth's GrandSLAM storytelling competition twice and has appeared in its Mainstage shows in cities across the country, as well as on its Peabody Award-winning show on PRX, The Moth Radio Hour. One of her stories was included in The Moth's New York Times-bestselling book, The Moth: 50 True Stories. A sufferer of interstitial cystitis and vulvodynia, she has spoken about her chronic illness at venues ranging from comedy clubs to medical conferences, including TED MED 2013 at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
