Author Mario Vargas Llosa Visits AUNT JULIA AND THE SCRIPTWRITER at Repertorio Espanol
Nobel Prize-winning author Mario Vargas Llosa (pictured, left) attended gala performance of AUNT JULIA AND THE SCRIPTWRITER (Tía Julia y El Escribidor) -- a play by OBIE Award Winning playwright Caridad Svich (12 OPHELIAS, THE HOUSE OF THE SPIRITS) under the direction of José Zayas.
The play and novel both tell the autobiographical story of Vargas Llosa's coming of age as a writer in 1950s Lima, Peru, his romance with the woman who was to become his first wife Julia Urquidi, and the radio-drama scriptwriter that inspired him to pursue his path as an artist.
The play premiered at Repertorio Español on Saturday, October 10th at 8:00 PM and continues in an open run through 2016. Featuring a stellar cast including Pablo Andrade, Zulema Clares, Dalia Davi, Gerardo Gudiño, Luís Carlos de la Lombana, Christian López-Lamelas and Alfonso Rey, with special appearances by Germán Jaramillo and Ana Margarita Martínez Casado. AUNT JULIA AND THE SCRIPTWRITER is presented in Spanish with English subtitles.
