Austrian Stage Brings THE WORLD FIXER to NYC Tonight

By:

Austrian Stage will present Thomas Bernhard's THE WORLD FIXER tonight, Dec 12, 2014 at 7PM at the Austrian Cultural Forum NY (Free Admission - bit.ly/bernhardworldny).

The World Fixer revolves around a self-centered, self-styled genius loosely based on Austrian philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. The protagonist is an author of an obscure philosophical tract ostensibly designed to improve the condition of the world, if the world could only understand it. Combining absurdist comedy with satire of academic pomposity, the play ultimately gives a moving portrait of human frailty.

THOMAS BERNHARD (Playwright): Thomas Bernhard (1931 - 1989) was an Austrian playwright, author & novelist. Bernhard, whose body of work has been called "the most significant literary achievement since World War II," is widely considered to be one of the most important German-speaking authors of the postwar era.

JEREMIAH KISSEL* (Actor, The World Fixer) Jeremiah Kissel is a thirty-five year veteran of New England's professional stages, having performed major roles for Boston's largest companies, including The Huntington, A.R.T., Lyric Stage, Boston's long running Shear Madness Company, New Rep, Commonwealth Shakespeare, and others. He is the recipient of Washington DC's Helen Hayes award, ("Invisible Man" 2012), various Boston theater awards, (most recently the 2014 Norton Best Actor), and in 2003 was given Boston's highest theater honor, The Elliot Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence.

SARAH NEWHOUSE* (Actress, Woman) Boston area credits include the American Repertory Theater, Boston Playwrights, Centastage, Lyric Stage, New Rep, Publick Theatre, Stoneham Theater and Shear Madness. Regional credits include Berkshire Theatre Festival, The Firehouse Theatre at Newburyport, and American Stage Festival. Ms. Newhouse is a founding company member of the Actors' Shakespeare Project, with whom she has performed more than a dozen roles in 8 years. Sarah is a graduate of Hampshire College and the A.R.T. Institute for Advanced Theatre Training at Harvard University.

GUY BEN-AHARON (Director/Producer) Born in Israel, Guy is the Producing Artistic Director and Founder of Israeli Stage, an initiative dedicated to sharing the diversity and vitality of Israeli culture. After the success of Israeli Stage, Guy was asked by the Goethe-Institut Boston to develop German Stage, by swissnexBoston to develop Swiss Stage and by the Austrian Cultural Forum to develop Austrian Stage. His dedication to bring theatre to younger audiences has resulted in tours up and down the East Coast from Toronto to Atlanta at various cultural and academic institutions. A proud Emerson College alum, Guy has been profiled in Ha'aretz/The International Herald Tribune, The Boston Globe (2012 & 2014), and The Improper Bostonian for the unique work he does to build cultural bridges.

AUSTRIAN STAGE: Austrian Stage is an initiative supported by Austrian Cultural Forum New York to introduce Austrian contemporary theatre to American audiences.
