Chelsea's TREEHOUSE Theater and Bad Theater Fest have curated a brash, bold, "can't look away" night of train wreck performances at TREEHOUSE Theater, 154 W 29th St (b/t 6th and 7th Ave) - 2nd Fl, New York, NY 10001. The variety show takes place Saturday, July 18, 8pm - 9:15pm. Tickets are $7 and available for purchase through treehousetheaternyc.com.

"Recent studies have shown that house cats are passing a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii on to their pet owners," says monologist Shawn Wickens. "This parasite has been linked to schizophrenia and dementia. Therefore, cat ownership is a public health issue and something should be done about it." Such is the conceit for the anti-house cat short performance. Also scheduled to appear at Stupid Jokes & Rotten Theater are an onstage bake sale, a mariachi band to serenade sad audience members plus additional acts and video shorts about Sex, Violence and Bacon (schedule subject to change).

Established to encouraged artists to make eye-catching theater, the Bad Theater Fest has hosted 200 short plays with the participation of nearly 500 playwrights, directors and actors. Their annual flagship event takes place over multiple weekends in October and is currently taking free submissions. The deadline is Sat, August 15, 2015 at Midnight EST.

The submissions process is 100 percent free. Projects may be entered through the form available at www.badtheaterfest.com/home/2015-bad-theater-fest-submission-form/. Interested playwrights should include a short bio, short description of the play, and a list and links of similar projects (if applicable).
