Each summer, the O'Neill is home to a series of national conferences ushering in new voices in playwriting, musical theater, cabaret, puppetry, and criticism. NTI's Theatermakers Summer Intensive provides young artists the opportunity to train alongside these professional conferences and see new American plays before they hit the big stage. Plays developed during summers at the O'Neill now abound off-Broadway, as major New York theaters premiere work from the National Playwrights Conference (NPC).

(02/12/2015) - George Takei (Broadway-bound Allegiance, Hikaru Sulu on TV's 'Star Trek'), Tony Award winner Linda Lavin (Broadway Bound, The Diary of Anne Frank, Hollywood Arms, TV's 'Alice') and her husband actor Steve Bakunas (Hollywood Arms, My Own Love Song), and Tony Award nominee Jessica Hecht (The Assembled Parties, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, TV's 'Friends'), are among those who have attended recent performances of Wiesenthal, the award-winning play now playing at the Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row through February 22. Following the performance, Hecht, Takei, Lavin and Bakunas all came backstage to visit with Wiesenthal's star and playwright, Tom Dugan.

(02/11/2015) - Several members of 'The Central Park Five,' the group of five young black and Latino youths falsely arrested and convicted in 1989 for the brutal beating and rape of a white woman in Central Park, attended the February 7 performance of The Bullpen, the one-man, 18-character comedy written and performed by Joe Assadourian, (now playing through March 21) at The Playroom Theater (151 West 46th Street - just east of Broadway). Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson and Yusef Salam, three of the five members, participated in a talkback following the performance to talk about their cases, re-entry and life inside the prison system.
