YAPP Presents The Laramie Project At Looking Glass 2/27

On February 27, 2011, the Young Artist Performance Project, a group constructed of students and young artists focusing on theater representing the problems teens and young adults are facing in today's society, will host a benefit performance of The Laramie Project.

The Young Artist Performance Project, or YAPP, began two years ago with a group of undergraduate students producing theater that makes a difference and relates directly to the age group that produces it. The shows are given a fresh look through the eyes of the young cast and creative team, often creating a special focus on the views of many other young people going through the same struggles and acceptance issues.

The Laramie Project, a play by Moises Kaufman and the Tectonic Theatre Project, focuses on the aftermath of the beating of Matthew Shepard, an openly gay student in his early twenties, and how the residents of Laramie, Wyoming reacted to it. The Laramie Project has been praised as "a breathtaking theatrical collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable."

Profits from the production will be given to the Trevor Project, the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among LGBTQ youth.
