Gingold Theatrical Group/Project Shaw, under the leadership of Artistic Director David Staller, in conjunction with the NYPL presents Women Take the Stage: George Bernard Shaw and Women's Rights, a free event on Monday, November 7 at 6:00pm at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center, Bruno Walter Auditorium (111 Amsterdam Avenue at 65th Street).

Join an artistic examination and celebration of a century of women's rights expansion in New York. On November 8, 1917, exactly 99 years before Election Day 2016, New York became the first US state to legally allow women to vote.

Kicking off a year-long celebration of this occasion, David Staller of Gingold Theatrical Group, along with representatives from of UN Women for Peace (Muna Rihani Al-Nasser), Amnesty International (Magdalena Medley), and the National Coalition Against Censorship (Joy Garnett), present an evening of lively discussion, illustrated by images and film clips of the New York suffrage movement.

Actors Cynthia Harris, Charlotte Moore and Talene Monahon will perform scenes from George Bernard Shaw's plays that championed women's rights, including Mrs. Warren's Profession, The Apple Cart, and Candida.

Reserve your general admission seat HERE starting October 7th (If you need assistance with online reservations, please visit the welcome desk at the Library for the Performing Arts' Lincoln Center Plaza entrance, where volunteers will make a reservation for you, even if you do not use email. For free events, The Library generally overbooks to ensure a full house. All registered seats are released 15 minutes before start time, so we recommend that you arrive early.)

Now celebrating its 11th year, Gingold Theatrical Group's Project Shaw made history in December 2009 as the first company ever to present performances of every one of Shaw's 65 plays (including full-length works, one-acts and sketches). They are now also including plays by writers who most inspired Shaw to begin his playwriting career, including work by Chekhov, Ibsen, Wilde, Barrie and Harley Granville-Barker--while continuing its new play development and educational programs.

The 2016 Project Shaw Season concludes with Androcles and the Lion (December 19). The 2017 schedule will be announced soon.

For those interested in lively off-site discourses, each Project Shaw event is followed by a talk-back with cast members. GTG's David Staller is also hosting a monthly Shaw Club discussion group. They meet the Wednesday before every Project Shaw event at 520 8th Avenue. Reservations required 212-355-7823 or info@gingoldgroup.org.
