Primary Stages (Casey Childs, Founder & Executive Producer; Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director; Elliot Fox, Managing Director) continues its 25th anniversary season of new works celebrating the female playwright with the New York premiere of The Night Watcher, written and performed by Charlayne Woodard. An inspiring solo play, The Night Watcher is directed by Tony Award-winner Daniel Sullivan. Performances begin Tuesday, September 22, 2009 for a limited run through Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Primary Stages at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Opening night is set for Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.

Simultaneously a best friend, advisor, confidant and sage to the many young people who call her "Auntie," Charlayne Woodard is childless only by biological standards. Told with penetrating grace and candor, Woodard beautifully weaves together stories of the ordinary and extraordinary ways she's mentored the children in her life. Declared "thoughtful, vivid, entertaining and poignant" in its Seattle Repertory debut last Fall, The Night Watcher is an intimate look at the alternative definition of being a parent.

The creative team includes Tom Lynch & Charlie Corcoran (Set), Jess Goldstein (Costumes), Geoff Korf (Lights), Obadiah Eaves (Sound), and Tal Yarden (Projections). The Production Stage Manager is Kelly Glasow.

The Night Watcher will play the following performance schedule: Tuesdays at 7:00 p.m., Wednesdays through Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 3:00 p.m. on September 27th , October 4th & 11th, and Wednesday matinees at 2:00 p.m. on October 14th, 21st & 28th. Following the public performances on October 8th, 15th, & 22nd, there are special "Artist/Audience Talkbacks" for the attendees of those performances.
