Playwrights Horizons has announced the creation of Live for Five, a new initiative as part of the theater company's Arts Access program, which allows the institution to reach out to those who may not be able to afford the cost of a full-price theater ticket.

Through an online lottery, Live for Five will make available $5 tickets for the first preview performance of each Playwrights Horizons production.  Theatergoers will be able to enter the lottery via the Playwrights Horizons website approximately one week prior to the performance, with winners of the lottery announced two days prior to the performance via email.

The program will debut with the first preview of the company's 2007/2008 season opener, 100 Saints You Should Know.  The World Premiere of a new play by Kate Fodor and directed by Ethan McSweeny, the production will play its first performance on Friday evening, August 24 at Playwrights Horizons' Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street).  Featuring two-time Tony Award nominee Lois Smith, two-time Emmy nominee Janel Moloney, Obie Award winner Jeremy Shamos, Zoe Kazan and Will Rogers, the play will have its official opening on Tuesday, September 18 at 7PM and continue through Sunday, September 30.

At least 50 tickets will be available for Mainstage shows via the lottery.  Live for Five replaces the former "Pay What You Can" initiative.
