Playlight Theater Company is proud to present THE GREAT PIE ROBBERY...Or, We Really Knead the Dough at the Elektra Theatre in the Times Square district of New York City!

Crusted Custard! The pies are missin'! In Skunk Valley, Ma and Pa Baker's livelihood is threatened when the evil Vincent Von Villenueva plots to take over the town starting with their pie shop. Can Chicken Farmer John save the old couple from his dastardly deeds, keep the town from becoming a rootin'-tootin' saloon destination and still prove his honor to the lovely shop girl? This hilarious spoof of turn-of-the-century melodramas-complete with a dashing hero, a mustache-twirling villain and a slew of wacky characters-is as American as...well, you know.

Set against the backdrop of the old west, THE GREAT PIE ROBBERY...Or We Really Knead the Dough encourages audience members to get involved in the action by cheering or booing the characters during entrances and exits, while a live piano emphasizes all the dramatic moments to hilarious results.

"The acting style of this era-mid to late 1800s-was unbelievably broad and gestural." says director Ben Tostado. "The characters of a melodrama are stock figures that everyone knows-the evil villain, the strong hero, the sweet damsel waiting to be rescued. In our production, however, we take these typical characters and spin them in a slightly different direction. For example, our villain does a tango, our hero is small, and our damsel, well, she's sweet, but feisty."

THE GREAT PIE ROBBERY...Or We Really Knead the Dough was previously performed at the 16th Annual New York International Fringe Festival in 2012.
