Gingold Theatrical Group's PROJECT SHAW, under the leadership of Founding Artistic Director David Staller, presented George Bernard Shaw's 1894 comedy, Arms and the Man, on Monday, January 27 at 7pm, at Symphony Space's Leonard Nimoy Thalia Theatre (2895 Broadway at 95th St). Directed by David Staller, Arms and the Man features Bryce Pinkham (Blunchli), Charlotte Parry (Raina) and David Furr (Sergius), Tony winner George S. Irving (Petkoff) and Cynthia Harris (Catherine), along with Marianna McClellan (Louka) and Jeff Ronan (Nicola) who complete the cast. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Executive Director Tom Viola was the narrator.

Arms and the Man, one of Shaw's most enduringly popular comedies, is on just about everybody's 'Favorite Shaw' list. The plot follows a hunted soldier who, seeking refuge in a young lady's boudoir, starts in motion a series of highly engaging and unlikely comedic events. His unusual philosophies about love, war and life in general open up a world of thought she'd never previously entertained--certainly not with her dashing war-hero fiancée who also arrives unexpectedly.

Arms and the Man was adapted into the 1908 operetta "The Chocolate Soldier" by Oscar Straus. Though it was a major success, Shaw was adamantly opposed to it.

GTG presents an annual festival, SHAW NEW YORK, which includes a fully-mounted Shaw play. Its 2013 festival presented Shaw's You Never Can Tell as a co-production with The Pearl Theatre Company, and was filmed for the Theatre on Film and Tape Collection for the NYPL Performing Arts Library at Lincoln Center.
