Off-Broadway's HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER Celebrates Chinese New Year Tomorrow

Off-Broadway's hit comedy HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER is celebrating the Chinese New Year with a special added 1:30pm matinee tomorrow (Saturday) at the new Screening Room Theater at Planet Hollywood Times Square, 1540 Broadway (entrance on 45th Street just east of Broadway). Written and performed by Margaret Copeland and Kevin James Doyle, HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER began performances August 22, 2012 at Sofia's Downstairs Theater where the show played to packed houses for more than a year. The production reopened at Planet Hollywood on October 19, 2013 to unanimous rave reviews. Due to overwhelming demand, the producers of HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER recently put a new block of seats on sale through April 26th.

It's common knowledge in the theatre community that both Copeland and Doyle are fluent in over a dozen languages. They implored the show's producers to allow them to perform the long-running comedy in Mandarin for one performance only. But ultimately it was decided that the show's rapid-fire laughs would be lost on the audience as a result, so the matinee will be performed in English as usual.

The Planet Hollywood edition of HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER introduces a bounty of new material including the debut of its hilarious new sketch, "Real Housewives of the Upper East Side." HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER delivers a laugh-filled tour around the greatest city in the world with actors, comedians and licensed tour guides Ms. Copeland and Mr. Doyle as they play over 60 characters. Under the direction of OBIE Award winner Robert Ross Parker, this "Saturday Night Live" style comedy features a hilarious look at NYC's 400-year history. Immigrants, construction workers, muggers, Wall Street bankers, panhandlers, MTA workers, and Mayor Bloomberg all get a solid lampooning! It doesn't matter if you were born on the Upper West Side or just took your first terrifying cab ride, you will love learning How to Be a New Yorker.

The regular playing schedule for HOW TO BE A NEW YORKER is Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm. Lunch or dinner is served at each performance with a delicious menu, catered by Buca di Beppo, consisting of House Salad, Spaghetti Marinara, Fettuccini Alfredo, Chicken Parmigiana, and Cookies & Brownies. Tickets are $59 (including the full buffet) and are available by calling 212-352-3101 or through
