New Musical A DOG STORY Officially Barks Off-Broadway Tonight

A Dog Story, (www.ADogStoryTheMusical.com) a new musical with music and lyrics by Gayla D. Morgan (Mary - A Musical) and book by Eric H. Weinberger (Wanda's World), is set to open tonight, November 17, off-Broadway at The Loft at The Davenport Theater (354 W. 45th Street). The show is produced by Seaglass Theatrical and co-produced by Waterfront Theatrics and Martha Robinson.

A Dog Story is a charming new musical comedy about Roland, a career-driven lawyer, who thinks he must be married to make partner. To solve his dilemma, he gets a puppy as a chick magnet. Through first dates, angry tangos, and a sudden disappearance, Roland discovers there's more to life when you "get a dog!"

The cast of A Dog Story includes David Perlman (Baby It's You!) as Roland, Stefanie Brown (WICKED Tour) as Blair, Lindsie VanWinkle (Nevermore) as Miranda, Brian Ray Norris (Sense and Sensibility) as Guy, and Alex Kidder (Ragtime at Westchester Broadway Theater) and Chris Blem (Disney's Believe) are the swings. Directed by Justin Baldridge (Thoroughly Modern Millie in Redondo Beach) with choreography by Shannon Lewis (Fosse) and musical direction by Dylan MarcAurele, the creative team includes scenic design by Lauren Mills (My Fair Lady at The Sharon Playhouse), sound design by Tyler Kieffer (The History Boys at Palm Beach Dramaworks), lighting design by Jamie Roderick (Disney's Tarzan at the WPPAC), and costume design by Travis Chinick (That Bachelorette Show). A Dog Story is executive produced by Ken Davenport.

A Dog Story received its premiere production in May 2014 at the Waterfront Playhouse in Key West, Florida. Critics raved about the sold out run: "The show is bliss and you will leave the theater with a heartfelt smile," said Conch Color Magazine and Konk Life cheered, "anyone who's ever loved a dog will love A Dog Story! The conclusion was another of those not-many-dry-eyes-in-the-house final curtain...Adorable!" Tickets for A Dog Story are $79.50 with premium seating available. A Dog Story plays the following schedule: Thursday 7pm, Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm and 8pm, and Sunday at 3pm and 7pm, and Monday at 7pm.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Eric H. Weinberger (book) is delighted to combine his passion for musicals and dogs in A Dog Story. His previous musicals are Wanda's World, (nominee, Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk), and ....And Then I Wrote A Song About It (productions in NJ, CA), which will be presented at Below 54 in NYC in May 2016. Eric has also written a number of plays. His Class Mothers '68 starring Tony winner Priscilla Lopez was produced in NJ and Off-Bwy. Tea For Three: Lady Bird, Pat & Betty, which he wrote with Elaine Bromka, who also stars in the show, has toured the country since 2004 and is published by Dramatic Playwriting. Currently, Eric is working on a play about the life of Vivian Vance - Ethel from "I Love Lucy."

GAYLA D. MORGAN (music and lyrics) began writing for the stage with a one-woman cabaret about her lack of a love life, Reflections on Being Single (Denver Center for the Performing Arts). Other shows include Conch Republic, The Musical! (Monnie O. King) (book; annual Key West Fringe Theatre productions, 2013-2015), Mary - A Musical (co-librettist Jean Mornard; O'Neill finalist, 2010), and Barry Gets It (Chris Widney, book; finalist, Moving Arts L.A. 2009). Gayla is also an actress, singer, violinist, and most importantly a devoted dog-lover, currently enjoying life with Kaya Piccolina, a Yorkiepoo.

JUSTIN BALDRIDGE (director) is proud to be making his NYC directorial debut with A Dog Story. A graduate of California State University, with post-graduate work completed at Roosevelt University, Chicago, he spent 10 years in education, directing more than 20 shows, including Cabaret, The Diviners, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Ninth Guest, Twelve Angry Jurors, How To Succeed...,, Bull, The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged), and Anything Goes. He has also worked frequently as a musical director (Seussical, Honk!, Urinetown, among others). He relocated to Manhattan from Redondo Beach in July 2016 and is enjoying exploring New York City one borough at a time.
