NEWSICAL THE MUSICAL To Take Two-Month Hiatus; Resumes in June

By:

It's the finAl Weeks to catch NEWSical The Musical before their two month hiatus. The show shares a venue with the Puerto Rican Travelling Theater who will be using the space for April and May. NEWSical will play its final performance Sunday, March 21st and is scheduled to re-open in June.

The Drama Desk nominated NEWSical the Musical lampoons current events, headlines, newsmakers, celebrities, and politicians. With songs and material being updated on a regular basis, composer-lyricist Rick Crom's topical musical comedy is an ever-evolving mockery of all the news that is fit to spoof! Susan Boyle, Tiger Woods, Jersey Shore, Obama, and Palin make up only a small handful of the colorful characters that get roasted in the 90 minute revue.

Drama Desk nominee Christine Pedi leads an ensemble that includes Christina Bianco (Drama Desk nominee Forbidden Broadway), Michael West (Forbidden Broadway, When Pigs Fly), and Rory O'Malley (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Dreamgirls film), Amy Griffin (How the Grinch Stole Christmas) and Tommy Walker (Evil Dead). The production is directed by Mark Waldrop (When Pigs Fly, My Deah, Inventing Avi, Papermill Playhouse's Gypsy). Rounding out the creative team are Ed Goldschneider (music director), Matthew Gordon (lighting designer), Jason Courson (set designer), David Kally (costume designer), and Scott Delacruz (stage manager). The show is being produced by Tom D'Angora (Broadway Diva Christmas, Naked Boys Singing!, Divas I've Done) and Fred M. Caruso (I Love You Because, The Big Gay Musical).

Christine Pedi is most known to New York audiences for her gift of impressions with her long association with Forbidden Broadway for which she received a Drama Desk nomination. She has appeared on Broadway with Martin Short in Little Me and most recently in Talk Radio. She can be heard hosting "On Broadway" and "Dueling Divas" with Seth Rudetsky on Sirius Satellite Radio. The show's ever busy writer Rick Crom has appeared on Broadway in Urinetown, Footloose, and The Goodbye Girl and he received a Drama Desk nomination for his work on NEWSical.

NEWSical the Musical will be taking a two month hiatus beginning Sunday, March 21st. The show's re-opening date will be announced shortly. Newsical the Musical plays at The 47th Street Theatre. The 47th Street Theatre is located at 304 W 47th Street, off of 8th Ave. Tickets are $70 and can be purchased through TicketCentral.com or by calling 212.279.4200.
