French, Henderson, Snow & More Set For IN TRANSIT At 59E59

By:

Primary Stages (Casey Childs, Founder & Executive Producer; Andrew Leynse, Artistic Director; Elliot Fox, Managing Director), has announced today the complete cast of the World Premiere musical event, In Transit. The seven-member cast features Steve French as Bass, Celisse Henderson as Alto, Hannah Laird as Soprano/Ali, Chesney Snow as Boxman, Graham Stevens as Baritone/Nate, Denise Summerford as Mezzo/Jane, and Tommar Wilson as Tenor/Trent.

Performances begin Tuesday, September 21, 2010 for a limited run through Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Primary Stages at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison Avenues). Opening night is set for Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

With Book, Music and Lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez, James-Allen Ford, Russ Kaplan and Sara Wordsworth, In Transit will be directed and have musical staging by Joe Calarco. Mary Mitchell Campbell is the Musical Director.

Inspired by the rhythms and sounds of life on the subway, In Transit follows an aspiring actress, a fledgling financier, a street-savvy beatboxer, a cab driver, and others as they find their way in New York City. The result is a vivid tapestry of characters and music in the City that never stands still.

In this fresh take on the modern musical, seven performers take on multiple roles and create every note with their own voices for a rich theatrical experience unlike anything you've ever seen (or heard) on stage before.

Primary Stages Artistic Director, Andrew Leynse said, "In Transit is an exciting undertaking for us not only because it is an innovative piece of theater, but because it takes the beloved tradition of musical theater and redefines it for all generations of theatergoers. As with any art form, we must challenge our conventional thinking of theater in order for it to endure and remain relevant and impactful."

The creative team includes Anna Louizos (Set), Jennifer Caprio (Costumes), Jeff Croiter (Lights) and Jon Weston (Sound). The Production Stage Manager is Andrew Neal.

In Transit will play the following performance schedule: Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m., Thursdays & Fridays at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. & 8:00 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 3:00 p.m. on September 26th, October 3rd & 10th and a Wednesday matinee at 2:00 p.m. on October 13th. Following the public performances on October 8th & 14th, there are special "Artist/Audience Talkbacks" for the attendees of those performances.
