'End of Lines', Play About NYC Subway Journeys, Premieres at 59E59

 59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer) announced the first production in 1st IRISH 2008, the Origin Theater Company production of END OF LINES, an evening of five short plays inspired by journeys on the NYC subway, written by Gary Duggan, Abbie Spallen, Ursula Rani Sarma, Pat Kinevane and Morna Regan. Directed by David Sullivan, Julia Gibson, Fiana Toibin and Alyse Rothman, END OF LINES begins performances on Saturday, September 6 and runs through Sunday, September 28.  Opening Night is Thursday, September 11 at 8:15 PM.  The performance schedule is Tuesday - Saturday at 8:15 PM; Sunday at 3:15 PM.  Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59th Street, between Park and Madison).  Tickets are $21 ($14.70 for 59E59 Members).  Tickets to all shows at 59E59 Theaters are available by calling Ticket Central at 212-279-4200 or online at www.ticketcentral.com.  For more information, visit www.59E59.org
 
Critically acclaimed Origin Theatre Company challenged five of Ireland's leading young playwrights to find inspiration in NYC's underground. In five world-premiere short plays, audiences travel on a unique journey into the heart and soul of New York City-the subway system-creating an exhilarating evening of theater.
 
The set and lighting design is by Maruti Evans. The costume designer is Michael Bevins.
 
About the playwrights:
Abbie Spallen's best known play, Pumpgirl, received its US premiere at Manhattan Theatre Club last season. It premiered at the Traverse Theatre during the 2006 Edinburgh festival and subsequently moved to The Bush in London. Pumpgirl won the 2007 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and is published by Faber & Faber. Her first play Abeyance, directed by Kirsten Sheridan, was produced by the Druid Theatre Company.

Pat Kinevane's first full-length play The Nun's Wood, which won a BBC Stewart Parker Trust Award '98, was produced by Fishamble Theatre Company. Fishamble then produced his second play The Plains of Enna, which premiered at the 1999 Dublin Theatre Festival. Since then he has written The Death of Herod for Mysteries 2000 at the SFX and is currently touring Ireland and Europe with his solo performance of his new play, Forgotten (Irish Theatre Awards nominee 2008).

Gary Duggan won the 2006 Stewart Parker Trust Award for his first full-length play, Monged, produced by Fishamble Theatre Company Dublin.  In 2005, Monged was first staged at Project Arts Centre, Dublin and directed by Jim Culleton. A revival of the show took place in October 2006 at several Dublin venues before transferring to the UK in November as part of the Liverpool Irish Festival. Gary's second play Dedalus Lounge premiered at the Samuel Beckett Theatre as part of the 2006 Dublin Fringe Festival. Both Monged and Dedalus Lounge had public readings in New York by Origin Theatre Company and The Irish Repertory Theatre in May 2007.
 
Ursula Rani Sarma's previous work for stage includes ...touched.., Wanderings, Gift, Blue, Orpheus Road, When the War Came, Patriotism and The Exchange, which were commissioned by companies such as The National Theatre (London), Paines Plough (London), The Traverse Theatre (Edinburgh), Stephen Joseph Theatre (Scarborough), and The Abbey Theatre (Dublin). She is currently developing plays for The Traverse Theatre, The Stephen Joseph Theatre and The National Theatre. Her play The Spider Men received its National Theatre premiere in London in July 2006.  The Traverse Theatre will produce her play The Dark Things as part of their 2009 season.
 
Morna Regan is the writer of award winning-short film The Case of Majella McGinty directed by Oscar-nominee Kirsten Sheridan.  Her play Midden was first produced in 2001 by Rough Magic Theatre Company
