Ducdame Ensemble Returns to FringeNYC this October with THE CONGRESSWOMEN

Ducdame Ensemble is set to return to FringeNYC this October with their world premiere adaptation of THE CONGRESSWOMEN.

THE CONGRESSWOMEN, a political satire by Aristophanes, is believed to have first premiered in Greece in 392 BC. The story revolves around the shifting dynamics of traditional gender roles when the female citizens of Athens make one bold and decisive move. As the women take charge of the government, the once powerful men must nervously negotiate their new place in society. Just in time for the 2018 midterm elections, Ducdame Ensemble's hilarious adaptation of this timeless comedy asks, "Who will be left to pick up the pieces from the Battle of the Sexes?"

THE CONGRESSWOMEN will be presented as part of FringeNYC, which is one arm of the newly revamped New York International Fringe Festival. Performance times, venue, and casting will be announced at a later date.

Ducdame Ensemble, a not-for-profit theatre company, was founded by graduates of the Master's Degree in Classical Acting program from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). The company's inaugural production, a new adaptation of Lope De Vega's FUENTE OVEJUNA, received a FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award in 2015. Their 2016 partnership with the International Shakespeare Center Santa Fe produced the world premiere of DAMES OF THRONES, THE WOMEN OF SHAKESPEARE'S HISTORIES; as well as THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, and an immersive TWELFTH NIGHT at Meow Wolf's renowned House of Eternal Return. Ducdame's 2017 production of THE ENCHANTMENT was part of the @SubletSeries at HERE Arts Center, and was awarded grants from the Swedish Arts Council and the American Scandinavian Foundation.
