New Ohio Theatre presents XO Feminist Productions' MY STUBBORN TONGUE written and performed by Anna Fishbeyn ("Sex in Mommyville") directed by Scott Klavan ("Irena's Vow") with performances beginning August 6 prior to an official press opening of August 8 at the New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street, inside the landmark Archive Building, between Greenwich Street and Washington Street in the West Village).

MY STUBBORN TONGUE is a story about a girl who refuses to be defined by her origins - Russian in America, Jewish in Russia, poor little immigrant. The only way out is the English language - and so begins a journey into the wild antics of the letter "u," the spit-firing enunciations of "th," and the unforeseen hazards of not knowing idioms. Experience the heartbreak and hilarity - the Russian version of what it means to be an American!

MY STUBBORN TONGUE was previously selected to be a part of Emerging Artists Theater One Woman Standing Festival and was performed on March 27, 2014; it has also been selected as part of the United Solo Festival 2014 and will be performed as part of that festival on October 28, 2014.

MY STUBBORN TONGUE playwright/actress Anna Fishbeyn previously wrote and starred in the critically acclaimed "Sex in Mommyville." Stewart Lewis of WCBS called Fishbeyn "a comic genius" and continued "Sex in Mommyville is extremely funny but also very poignant." Flavorpill.com made "Sex in Mommyville" an Editors Pick and said "Fishbeyn's a gifted writer and engaging storyteller." And Rachel Mann of Becoming A Jewish Parent said, "like some of the very best humorists and essayists, Fishbeyn is not afraid to mine her own life...for humor and pathos (think: Nora Ephron or David Sedaris)."

Scott Klavan recently directed the play "Searching For Frankie" in the 2014 Strawberry Festival. As an actor, Scott performed on Broadway in "Irena's Vow," with Tovah Feldshuh, and in numerous shows Off Broadway, including "The Joy Luck Club." He wrote and appeared in the one-acts "The Double Murder Plays." One of the plays, "Double Murder," was published in Best American Short Plays of 2006-7, by Applause Books. For twenty years, Scott was Script and Story Analyst for the legendary actors Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, and for HBO, Viacom and other film and theater companies. He currently writes about theater for the on-line arts journal Escape Into Life.

New Ohio Theatre is a two-time OBIE Award-winning performance venue that serves the vast independent theatre community of New York and the adventurous audiences who love them. As a small, downtown, artist-run organization with a twenty-plus year history as a beacon for bold and inventive work, we know the challenges and rewards of producing and presenting alternative, groundbreaking theatre. In any given year, there are over 500 independent theatre companies working for opportunities to develop and present new work. We believe the best of this community operates at the core of the contemporary theatre conversation (about both content and form) and acts collectively to expand the boundaries of the public imagination. With our move to Christopher Street, we aim to establish a professional, high-profile platform for the independent theatre community, reestablishing the West Village as a destination for mature, ridiculous, engaged, irreverent, gut-wrenching, frivolous, sophisticated, foolish, and profound theatrical endeavors.

Scheduled August 6 through August 24 MY STUBBORN TONGUE has a performance schedule of Wednesdays at 8pm; Thursdays at 3pm and 8pm; Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 7pm. Tickets are $30 ($15 for Students and Seniors) and can be purchased online at http://goo.gl/JI9Mal.
