Nancy Opel and More Set for ENTERTAINING MR. SLOANE, 11/5

Joe Orton's ENTERTAINING MR. SLOANE will be directed by Daniel Goldstein and produced by Anne Kaufman and will star Nancy Opel (Kath) John Behlmann (Sloane) Paxton Whitehead (Kemp) and Marc Vietor (Ed).

There will be a pre-show concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. - "A Touch of Coward", featuring Steve Ross, Amanda Squitieri (soprano), Mairi Dorman-Phaneuf (cellist) and Marc Phaneuf (saxophone) with stage manager Erin Gilbreth.

Middle-aged Kath has a room to let in her house by the rubbish tip. Young Mr. Sloane seeks a room. The perfect match, except...well, there just seems to be a bit more to the sexy boarder than meets the eye. Kath’s blind father sees further and has his reservations about Mr. Sloane, suspicions that, for his sake, he may wish to keep to himself. Between Kath, her brother Ed, and the new tenant, however, life seems pretty cozy by the tip. But this is an Orton play, and in an Orton play, cozy is sometimes another word for sinister, another term for naughty, a synonym for scandal.

Broadway and Royal Shakespeare Company veteran Paxton Whitehead joins the distinguished cast in this hilarious, dark, and sexy tale, originally produced by Terence Rattigan in London in 1964.

“I do think you’ve written the most exciting and stimulating first play that I’ve seen in 30-odd years of play going,” Rattigan told Orton regarding Entertaining Mr. Sloane.
