Reports are circulating that the off-Broadway Hit, ALTAR BOYZ, may be getting big screen treatment and that Tony-winning Avenue Q librettist Jeff Whitty has been tapped by the show's creators to adapt the script for the film.

The movie will allegedly feature some new tunes. Pre-production is scheduled for the spring.

ALTAR BOYZ the musical hit the 2000 performance mark on Sunday December 13th at the 7:30pm performance, making it the 9th longest running Off-Broadway musical of all time. It now trails only The Fantasticks (17,162), I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change (5,003), Nunsense (3,672), The Threepenny Opera (2,611), Naked Boys Singing 2361) Forbidden Broadway (original 1982-87; 2,332), Little Shop Of Horrors (2,209), and Godspell (2,124) in the long-run list.

Like the musical, the movie musical will spoof the trials and tribulations of a Christian boy band.

Altar Boyz features Michael Kadin Craig, Lee Markham, Travis Nesbitt, Mauricio Perez, and Ravi Roth, and is directed by Stafford Arima and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli. Altar Boyz has music & lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker with book by Kevin Del Aguila, based on a concept by Marc Kessler and Ken Davenport.
