59E59 Theaters (Elysabeth Kleinhans, Artistic Director; Peter Tear, Executive Producer; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) is thrilled to launch the 2017 Brits Off Broadway festival during Scotland Week with A GAMBLER'S GUIDE TO DYING, written and performed by Gary McNair and directed by Gareth Nicholls. Produced by Show And Tell, with support from Creative Scotland, Made In Scotland, and the Traverse Theatre, A GAMBLER'S GUIDE TO DYING begins performances on Tuesday, April 4 for a limited engagement through Sunday, April 23. Press Opening is Sunday, April 9 at 3:30 PM. The performance schedule is Tuesday - Thursday at 7:30 PM; Friday at8:30 PM; Saturday at 2:30 PM & 8:30 PM; and Sunday at 3:30 PM. Please note there is an added performance on Sunday, April 23 at 7:30 PM. Performances are at 59E59 Theaters (59 East 59thStreet, between Park and Madison Avenues). What are the odds of living an extraordinary life?

This is the story of one boy's granddad who won a fortune betting on the 1966 soccer World Cup and, when diagnosed with cancer, gambled it all on living to see the year 2000. An intergenerational tale of what we live for and what we leave behind.

The design team includes Simon Hayes (lighting design) and Michael John McCarthy (sound design, composer). The production stage manager is Fiona Johnston.

Gary McNair (playwright/performer) is a playwright, director and performer based in Glasgow. After graduating with first class honors in Contemporary Theatre Practice from the RSAMD (now RCS) in 2007 he has produced work with and for many of Scotland's major theater companies and his work has been translated into several languages and performed around the world, including After the Cuts (Oran Mor),The War on Christmas (The Arches), Donald Robertson is Not A Stand Up Comedian (National Theatre of Scotland/ The Arches/ The Traverse), What You Don't Know... (Trigger), Born To Run (Oran Mor/The Traverse), Count Me In (National Theatre of Scotland/The Citizens/ The Traverse), How Soon is Nigh? (The Arches/ The Traverse), and Crunch (Oran Mor/ National Theatre of Scotland). His most recent work includes A Gambler's Guide to Dying enjoyed a successful run at the Traverse Theatre during the 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show received huge critical acclaim, was the recipient of a Fringe First and the Holden Street Theatre awards and was featured in the BBC's best solo shows of the Fringe. It recently returned from Australia's Adelaide Festival and toured to the Spoleto Festival in 2016.

Gareth Nicholls (director) is an award winning theater director based in Glasgow but working throughout the UK. Most recently he held the post of Citizens Theatre Main Stage Director in Residence (2014-16) where his shows included Into That Darkness, Vanya, Blackbird and a sold-out production of Irvine Welsh's Trainspotting - all of which went onto gain much critical acclaim including 4 and 5 star reviews plus CATS (Critics Awards for Theatre in Scotland) nominations for Blackbird and Into That Darkness.

He has directed productions for a range of companies including National Theatre of Scotland, The Traverse, The Tron Theatre, The Arches, Play Pie and a Pint, Macrobert, High Tide Festival Theatre and Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. He trained in Contemporary Theatre Practice at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

He has won several awards including Two Fringe First Awards (2012 for Educating Ronnie and 2015 for A Gamblers Guide to Dying), a Scottish Arts Club Award for 'best Scottish Festival show' (2014 for Donald Robertson Is Not A Stand-Up Comedian) and the Arches New Directors award (2011). He is also co-artistic director of new work company Utter alongside Joe Douglas.
