Shakespeare's King Lear is a tragedy. King Lear decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters. His daughters Goneril and Regan, pay homage to the king in order to gain his favor and their portion of the kingdom. The third daughter, Cordelia, is offered her portion of the kingdom but refuses to be insincere. She expresses true love and affection but is disowned by her father who is looking for flattery. As the story unfolds, King Lear discovers who is genuine in their affection and who is not but ultimately goes insane. Tragically, several main characters die in the end.
