Firehouse Theatre to Present THE BOY IN THE BATHROOM, Begin. 7/15

Firehouse Theatre has announced that Michael Lluberes and Joe Maloney's The Boy in the Bathroom: A New Musical begins previews on Thursday, July 15 and begins a performance run at Firehouse Theatre on Friday, July 24 thru Friday, September 4. This is the first production in Firehouse's SEASON OF RADICAL CHANGE.

The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a pre-show reception and will continue at Synetic Theater with the 8 p.m. performance of Everett Quinton's Obie Award-Winning play A Tale of Two Cities, directed by Serge Seiden and starring Company Member Alex Mills.

Richmond CenterStage has been named a Bronze winner at the 36th Annual Telly Awards for their piece entitled El Pintor, Latin Ballet of Virginia, which aired on the Community Idea Stations. The Telly Awards honors the very best film and video productions, groundbreaking online video content, and outstanding local, regional, and cable television commercials and programs. This year, nearly 12,000 entries from all 50 states were submitted for consideration.

Virginia Rep's Artistic Director to Step Down

Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the formation of a Leadership Transition Task Force to begin the search process for a new Artistic Director. After 40 years as a founding artistic leader of Virginia Repertory Theatre (formerly Theatre IV and Barksdale Theatre), Bruce Miller has announced that he will step aside as Artistic Director in July of 2016, "For four decades I've had the best job in the world. It's time to share it with someone new. I look forward to assisting and supporting the new Artistic Director in whatever way I can." Miller will be pursuing new job opportunities at Virginia Rep to lead efforts in development and education.

Construction is now beginning on a new building for Barter Theatre. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday, May 14 to kick-off the creation of a new facility for the properties department, often referred to as the Prop Shop. The land for this building is already owned by Barter and is located is on Barter Drive in Abingdon.

Running today, May 7 through Saturday, May 9, the one-act play is an imaginary conversation between Anne Frank and Emmett Till, both victims of racial and religious intolerance and hatred. Acclaimed director Thomas W. Jones II ('The Islands' 'Bessie's Blues') will direct the piece, with the belief it will help add to the dialogue around these issues.
