Stephanie Waters plays Magnolia in Signature's Show Boat. Magnolia's story spans 40 years, as the classic musical follows her from the banks of the mighty Mississippi to Chicago and finally home again to Ol' Man River. It's the type of role that demands a great deal from an actress.

Stephanie has been preparing for this challenge since she was 17 and appeared as Anne in Signature's production of A Little Night Music. Sondheim was blown away by her performance and found her to be the most authentic Anne he had ever seen play the role. Stephanie returned to Signature in 2007 as Cinderella in Into the Woods, the first production in Signature's new Shirlington facility. And in last season's Les Misérables, Stephanie played the beautiful Cosette for which she received a Helen Hayes nomination.

Terry Burrell joins Stephanie on the river as the sultry, steamy Julie in Show Boat; the singer with a black mother and a white father whose career is destroyed by prejudice and her own descent into alcoholism. No stranger to the role,Terry also played Julie in the London production of Show Boat. Terry's Broadway credits include Three Penny Opera, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Swinging On A Star, Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, Michael Bennett's Dreamgirls, Honky Tonk Nights, and Eubie. She has also been in the national tours of Crowns, Copacabana, A Grand Night for Singing, Bubbling Brown Sugar, and The Wiz.

Closer to home, Terry appeared in Arena Stage's musical version of The Women of Brewster Place, and received a Helen Hayes nomination for her portrayal of Queenie in Duke Ellington's Queenie Pie. Terry is also a seasoned cabaret artist who has performed her nightclub act for audiences from Monte Carlo to the Caribbean.

Join these two dynamic actresses for the first Brown Bag Thursday discussion of 2010. We look forward to seeing you in the lobby on January 7. Bring your lunch, pull up a chair, and let's start the New Year with a lively discussion.

This community event is free to the public. No reservations or tickets are required.

THURSDAY, JANUARY 7 1:00 - 2:00PM at the Mead Lobby Signature Theatre 4200 Campbell Avenue Arlington, VA 22206
