FRAMEWORKS, An Evening Of New And Experimental Dance Opens Today Image

FRAMEWORKS, an evening of new and experimental dance works, will showcase six original dance pieces by Richmond and Cleveland choreographers. The showcase, organized by Richmond-based musician Hayden Arp, began originally as a collaborative project between Arp and Cleveland, OH-based dancer and choreographer Akane Little. The project has grown to showcase their second collaborative piece Aerobics Class, as well as pieces by Richmond-based choreographers Alicia Olivo, Jelani Taylor, Torian Ugworji, Christine Wyatt, and Callie Moore's Snap Soup Dance.

Arp and Little's Aerobics Class is a two-city collaboration featuring original music with live cueing and a cast of dancers based in Cleveland and Richmond. The piece presents two starkly different, surreal, yet interrelated worlds, and throughout the course of its unraveling, highlights themes of habitual violence against marginalized communities, alienation, and intimacy as a means of resilience within American society.

FRAMEWORKS will also showcase dance artist, Christine Wyatt, and musician, Chet Frierson, who merge their artistry to create a new work entitled 'duet w/ Chet'. This work is an experimental, "chance dance" with a structure determined by the randomized drawing of playing cards. It is an exploration of time, rhythm, culture, and memory. They dive into the complexities of improvisation to play with movement and sound in a familiar, but undetermined world.

Alicia Olivo will present a piece choreographed in collaboration with her dancers, exploring what it means to be an object in space in relation to other obstacles. The dancers have transformed movement phrases to transcend the restrictions of proscenium stage.

FRAMEWORKS will also feature new works by Jelani Taylor, Torian Ugworji, and Callie Moore's Snap Soup Dance.

TICKETS AND PERFORMANCES: FRAMEWORKS will show for One Night Only on August 24th, 8:00pm at The Basement (TheatreLAB), located at 300 E Broad Street in Richmond, Virginia. Tickets are $10 and are available at Frameworks-richmond.eventbrite.com. Members of the press can secure comp tickets by email Hayden Arp at the above contact email.
