SESAME STREET THE MUSICAL - The Kennedy Center

Sesame Street the Musical

CASTING CALL

Produced by Rockefeller Studios

ABOUT THE SHOW: The production will present everyone’s favorite Sesame Street friends in their original puppet form on stage as they prepare to put on their very own musical. The production weaves together classic and iconic songs from the Sesame Street repertoire, along with comedy sketches and new original songs from both established and up-and-coming Broadway composers.

Sesame Street The Musical will be performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC this summer from July 10 - August 31. Rehearsals/tech to be first two weeks of July, performer should be available to travel as of June 29. Housing, transportation to DC and per diem will be provided. Housing is located walking distance from the Kennedy Center. Pay is $800/week.

ROLES:

- “GUEST STAR” (Any Gender): The “Guest Star” is a performer that joins Sesame Street’s Muppets on stage. This role is the only “human” in the production, so we’re looking for someone approachable and friendly.

Vocal Ranges for “Guest Star”:

Male: Tenor Required Range: B3 to G4

Female: Mezzo-Soprano / Soprano (preferred) Required Range: B4 to G5

Previous puppeteering experience is preferred but not required, as there is also an accompanying backstage puppet track. Familiarity with the Sesame Street hand puppet style of puppetry (both one and two-hand glove puppets and rod puppets), and the Bunranku style of puppetry (multiple puppeteers performing different parts of the same puppet) is desired - but again, not required.

SELF-TAPE AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS:

The first part of the audition process will be self-taped submissions, and will require:

1. Resume.

2. Headshot.

3. Videos:

a. Slate: Auditionees to introduce themselves, stating their name, location, and their agent (if applicable).

b. Songs:

- Auditonees sing a song of their choosing that best represents the vocal range listed in the breakdown, ideally something upbeat.

- Auditionees to also sing “Believe in Yourself”, materials available in Dropbox folder (listed below)

c. Scene: perform scene in Dropbox folder (listed below)

d. Puppetry/Optional: puppetry experience. Auditionees should use a puppet to show lip-syncing ability while singing any previously recorded Sesame Street song live.

Video files can be uploaded to Dropbox, WeTransfer, Google Drive, etc. and supplied as a link.

- PUPPETEER: Sesame Street the Musical is looking to hire a female-presenting performer who also has puppeteer experience, specifically in the Sesame Street hand puppet style of puppetry (both one and two-hand glove puppets and rod puppets), and the Bunranku style of puppetry (multiple puppeteers performing different parts of the same puppet). Puppeteers must be familiar with stools on wheels, and (being a stage show) be confident to puppeteer consistently without a monitor.

SELF-TAPE INSTRUCTIONS:

The first part of the audition process will be self-taped submissions, and will require:

1. Headshot

2. Resume

3. Videos:

a. Slate: Auditionees to introduce themselves, stating their name, location, and their agent (if applicable).

b. A link to an unlisted video (e.g. YouTube or Vimeo) showcasing your puppeteering skills that is a maximum of 3 minutes long. In the video, please:

- Introduce yourself with the puppet

- Have your puppet walk in and out of the frame

- Demonstrate a variety of original character voices with your puppet; we want to see your original character voices, not existing Sesame Street character voices. A combination of scripted and improvised scenes is welcome.

- Demonstrate your singing voice by having your puppet sing a song

- Have your puppet lip sync to any previously recorded Sesame Street song

Please note: If you do not have a puppet, please feel free to use your hand or your hand in a sock, etc.
