SISTERS OF SWING - Centre Stage

207 Eisenhower Drive, Greenville SC.

Show Description

They sold over 90 million records, nine of them gold. They had more TOP TEN hits than the Beatles or Elvis, and they are still one of the best-selling female vocal groups of all time. Audiences understand why when they see “Sisters of Swing: The Story of the Andrew Sisters”. The book musical follows sisters LaVerne, Maxene, and Patty Andrews from their early days on the road through their rise as recording stars to entertaining American GI’s overseas to dissembling over differences. The score intermingles over twenty hit songs like “Bei Mir Bit Du Schon”, “Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree”, “Woody Woodpecker”, and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”. The show goes beyond the ordinary to offer unique perspective into these women as individuals, showing how the events of their lives shaped who they became to the rest of the world.

Please be prepared to provide the following information:

PREPARE A ONE-MINUTE COMEDIC MONOLOGUE
PREPARE TWO VOCAL SELECTIONS (One Ballad, One Up-Tempo: selections should be no longer than one minute in length and from the era of the production (see above ) or American Songbook 1925-1970)
EITHER BRING ABILITY (device & chords) TO PLAY MUSIC FROM A DEVICE, SHEET MUSIC FOR ACCOMPANIST, OR SING A CAPELLA.
BE READY TO SIGHT READ UPON REQUEST
DRESS TO DANCE ~ IF YOU HAVE TAP SHOES, BRING THEM! (Tap experience favored, but ability and willingness to learn is also accepted)
PLAN TO STAY TO THE END FOR POSSIBLE VOCAL BLENDING, IF NEEDED
BE PREPARED TO PROVIDE CONFLICTS YOU MAY HAVE FROM APRIL 25TH THROUGH AUGUST 20TH

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

ANDREW SISTERS - Actresses will portray the Andrew Sisters from childhood to maturity. All must be exceptional singers/actors, and move well.
- Patty - lead singer(20’s-30’s) . Clown of the group, adores the spotlight
- Maxine - Soprano, middle sister. Outspoken sister, always testing boundaries.
- LaVerne - Alto, oldest sister. Tends to be a “little mother”. PLAYS PIANO
MAN - Strong actor/singer. (20’s-30’s) Plays a variety of characters including “Lou levy, a New York wheeler-dealer. Man also plays a wide variety of other characters. PLAYS PIANO.
